‘MY BOYS’ TV SERIES REVIEW: A QUIRKY SMALL TOWN IN BIG CITY VIBE
A TV comedy with a short run, My Boys is a funny show that aired in 2006 on TBS.
My Boys (2006) TV Show Review
Hanging out with a group of four dudes means PJ Franklin (Jordana Spiro) is one of the guys. Until she isn’t. This is usually when the guys need advice about women. Among the “boys” is Mike (Jamie Kaler), the one who thinks he’s got more swag than he does; small business owner Kenny (Michael Bunin); the Peter Pan and PJ’s best friend from college, Branden (Reid Scott); and finally, there is big brother Andy (Jim Gaffigan), the married lawyer. A sportswriter who has always been a bit of a tomboy, much to the enteral frustration of her best friend, Stephanie (Kellee Stewart), PJ hosts a weekly poker game for all her boys.
Things change slightly when one of them brings along a new guy in the form of fellow sportswriter, Bobby Newman (Kyle Howard). A change the group needs to make their poker night better. However, the change his addition adds may be surprising.

⚾🏈⚽🏀‘MY BOYS’ TV SERIES REVIEW: A QUIRKY SMALL TOWN IN BIG CITY VIBE🏈⚽⚾ REVIEWING THE 2006 SERIES FROM TBS. #TVSHOW #COMEDY #FUNNY #FUNNYTV Share on XThis is one of those TV shows that didn’t last overly long but is cute. The show did last four years, however the final three are comprised only of nine episodes. The show has that kind of easy watching vibe that puts this comfortably in the binge watch category. The characters are, sometimes unbelievably, easy to like, even with their flaws. Today’s culture likely won’t like at least Branden and Mike, but I like everyone and appreciate the friendship with Branden and PJ. What does rub me slightly the wrong way is the writer’s dropping the plot about Branden and PJ.
One of the plot threads that kind of starts to untie is a possible romance, only for it to drop fast and never spoken of again. I’m not sure if it received backlash from viewers or what, but either way, we did deserve a little more than what the script gives. There’s a bit of romance here and there, and while it’s not ultimately disappointing how the romance stories shake out, they feel nonexistent given the limited time the writing spends on them. There’s a kind of “forbidden” romance that plays out, plus a let’s-keep-this-a-secret, and a little plot of will-they-or-won’t-they that forms too.
The show is mostly about a group of people and friendship. Which is the primary driving force, and even with the romance intermingle, because the writing doesn’t use this, we often forget about it. The show also has this ability to feel “small town” because of the local, small bar, though it’s set in Chicago. All in all, if you’re looking for something easy to binge, My Boys is entertaining.

Content: there is talk about conquests or having sex. Depending on the episode, some is “worse” than others. An entire episode revolves around someone realizing how long it’s been; they try to seduce someone. A possible assault crops up when a man assumes a woman wants to be together. There is some minor profanity and social drinking. The TV series is TV-14.
