There’s a bit of nostalgia news with the possibility of a sequel and some TV cancellations plus a story from a month or so ago that I did forget to mention. All this and more is below so we’re cutting off introductory conversation and jumping in.

POP CULTURE NEWS EIGHTY-FIVE

Two or so weeks ago, we reported that the CW was working to “pad” their scripted lineup a bit. This coming after a multitude of shakeups and cancellations the three most recent of which are The Winchesters; Kung Fu; and Walker: Independence which is supposedly shopping itself around. One of their Canadian TV acquisitions was with Chad Michael Murray. Their second is The Spencer Sisters. As of now, the plot is about a “mother and daughter duo who team up to start a private detective agency. It pairs mystery novelist Victoria Spencer and her daughter Darby Spencer who are mistaken as sisters as they tackle puzzling cases.” The show stars Lea Thompson and Stacey Farber.

Elyse Hollander is, reportedly, working on a script for an “in the works” sequel to the 2003 Disney remake of Freaky Friday. The film which is a fan favorite would reunite its stars, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Who else would you want to return or make a new character debut?

Fox has cancelled Call Me Kat. The sitcom followed a woman who left an academic career to open a café where real cats were part of the atmosphere. The show was based off the British sitcom Miranda.

In other cancellation news, CBS cancelled S.W.A.T. only to then reverse its decision and bring back the show for a final (and short) seventh season.

If you’re into trailers and finding all the things, trailers for the eight season of Grantchester and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 are here! I’m holding fast to my not-watching trailers opinion, but tell me what you think.

I just finished binging the old sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, which is why this caught my attention. The titular star, Frankie Muniz will star in a sci-fi thriller. Currently the title is Renner and will film over the summer. The early plot reads as being about “a computer genius of the same name, played by Muniz, as he looks to court his neighbor with the help of an AI he develops named Salenus — only to realize, a bit too late, that he accidentally programmed his manipulative mother into it.”

A few weeks ago, social media became all up in arms about Emma Roberts posting a collab promoting milk. This is a story I did mean to include the week of, but didn’t. So I want to briefly mention it because the attitude of people is ridiculous. If Roberts wants to drink milk and isn’t a vegan, let the women drink milk. If her audience doesn’t like milk, don’t drink milk. The Reel, which impressively is still on her page, has turned off comments with a caption that reads “Fun fact!! I’ve been a lifelong milk drinker because of its essential nutrients that many milk alternatives don’t have, and not to mention it tastes delicious esp in my latte!” Again… don’t drink milk if you don’t want. But FYI, let’s let someone else be happy enjoying milk in their latte!

At one of her Nashville shows, Taylor Swift revealed she’ll release the ‘Taylor’s Version’ of Speak Now on July 7. Her Instagram caption announcing this reads like so:

“It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk 😆). I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness. I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing … and living to speak about it. With six extra songs I’ve sprung loose from the vault, I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) with you on July 7th.”

This has sparked ALL kinds of excitement. But honestly… Speak Now is the album I think about least, and I don’t think it’s one of her best. Am I totally wrong?

Have you read any of these stories? Do any make you mad? Or do you think some of the TV shows ending is good? Which would you have saved? What hubbub am I missing about Speak Now TV? Comment all of your thoughts. Let’s meet in the comments.

    1. I agree and think Hollywood is actually running out of ideas! That said I will admit I’d watch a “Freaky Friday” sequel. ;)

YES! Society is crazy! It’s like, let Emma drink milk. She can if she wants to. I have used dairy, then non-dairy and now I’m back to diary products again. Like, let us use all the diary if we want!
