‘TIPLINE MYSTERIES: DIAL 1 FOR MURDER’ ANOTHER HALLMARK STANDALONE

Pairing a newer and well-loved face in this mystery duo, Tipline Mysteries: Dial 1 for Murder is, like anything from Hallmark, entertaining.

Tipline Mysteries: Dial 1 for Murder (2024) Hallmark Media Review

Working as a concierge at a high-class hotel, Maddie Moore (Holland Roden) does her job well, and uses a bit of creativity to keep guests happy. In her free time, Maddie is a bit of a sleuth. She follows police chatter and works nights at the Detroit Free Press tipline. When she receives a tip about more than just missing cats, she calls the police with information about a serious robbery.

Tired of her consistent calls about insignificant things, no one at the station wants Maddie’s tips anymore, which means the just promoted new guy, Detective Dawson Beeks (Chris McNally) is stuck with Maddie and her persistence…

‘TIPLINE MYSTERIES: DIAL 1 FOR MURDER’ ANOTHER HALLMARK STANDALONE. Holland Roden and #ChrisMcNally co-star in new #Hallmark mystery! #Hearties #WCTH Share on X

Releasing first to Hallmark’s streamer Hallmark Movies Now under their Hallmark Media banner, this is entertaining. There is really no need to say more because it then follows the usual patterns. It does have some surprising instances of humor. Like a generation gap question of “how do I do that?” in response to someone telling a new, young co-worker to answer the phone. I also like that new actors come into this though Chis McNally is a familiar and loved from When Calls the Heart. Meanwhile, you may remember Holland from 2023’s Making Waves.

The film is cute just as a cozy mystery should be. I like Holland in the role and find her curiosity and pushback against Dawson cute. Sometimes being curious doesn’t really work, but Holland does because of how she plays the character which is endearing and fun. This one also sets up as a standalone, but likely could be a series if the film did well. However, right now, while the network does seem intent on returning to mysteries, they produce a lot that that never become a series.

Whether we see more in Tipline Mysteries: Dial 1 for Murder or not, this one completes. So in that way, the ending is good. Still, I wouldn’t protest if we saw Maddie and the detective reteam again in the future.

Note; this film will debut on Hallmark Channel June 7th; it’s currently streaming on Hallmark Movies Now

Content: nothing outside the normal TV-PG Hallmark mystery. We see two – three people “shot” with some kind of gun (it’s called a dart gun and is staid to have a pet tranquilizer). One person dies; we see the body lying on the floor the next morning (not graphic).
