‘WEDDING SEASON’: THE CUTEST OF 2023 HALLMARK JUNE WEDDING MOVIES

by

Mixing familiar tropes into one story, Wedding Season is without question one of the cutest romantic comedies I’ve seen on Hallmark in a while.

Wedding Season (2023) Hallmark TV Film Review

Finding her professional voice is something Trish (Stephanie Bennett) is ready to hone. Instead of fluff pieces, she wants to be taken seriously and she gets a chance to do just this when her boss becomes intrigued by the idea that Trish has three back-to-back bridesmaid duties in the weddings of her best high school friends, a group she’s kept in touch with.

Somewhat jaded by the idea of marriage, Trish goes into her duties hoping for the best for the happy couples, but unsure she believes in all that goes with marriage. But instead of just getting the story, Trish discovers she may be the one who learns something.

One of the better romantic comedies I’ve seen from Hallmark in a bit, Wedding Season is darling. I specify this as a rom-com because it actually feels more like a romantic comedy whereas some of their scripts are more “feel good” with a dash of romance to pacify the audience. This one has more of that romance plus comedy blend. Maybe it’s the setting at a wedding or the cast, but whatever it is, it’s definitely more prevalent.

Speaking of the cast, I quite like them all. I haven’t seen Stephanie (that I remember) in a lead role, but she does well. While lesser in their screen time, the best friend group is fabulous, and I love that Casey Deidrick shows up in another Hallmark. I quite liked him in the 2021 Christmas flick A Very Merry Bridesmaid so seeing him again was perhaps what made me enjoy this more.

Full of friendship, humor, heart and just lots of feel-good moments, Wedding Season is charming. Leaning into the romantic comedy elements helps it, as does the non-dramatic this-won’t-work moment. It’s something I’d re-watch, and that’s not something I often do with this type of film.
