‘LOVE AND GELATO’ BOOK REVIEW: PERFECT SUMMERTIME READING

STORY: Losing the one and only constant in her life has been more than just a little tough on Carolina or Lina as she is called by everyone. Further uprooting her life is the request from her mother that upon her death, Lina visits Italy and stays with Howard, the man who is her father. Grieving and missing her best friend, Lina is in no mood to bond with a father she’s never met, but what’s worse is Howard lives (yes he lives!) in a cemetery… love and gelato book review

LOVE and GELATO BOOK REVIEW

REVIEW: One of the many novels sitting on my bookshelf for these many years, finally I read Love and Gelato. A debut by its author, Jenna Evans Welch (who according to her acknowledgements is also the daughter of Richard Paul Evans), writes a story that seems in a way personal to her. Not perhaps the loss, but the experience of Italy. As a result, I think the novel has a nice personal element we don’t even recognize.

BOOK REVIEW | ‘THINGS YOU SAVE IN A FIRE’: A UNIQUE STORY ABOUT STRONG HEROINE

Like one might expect, though when I started reading I’d quite forgotten about the bittersweet element of the novel. Regardless, this novel is ideal and perfect summertime reading if that’s something you’re looking for. Lina is a likable character and the sprinkle of romance is sweet. The mystery is difficult to undo but this doesn’t change the enjoyment or the way we invest in Lina facing a future that isn’t anything she would wish for.

Even though we “see” the sorrow of Lina’s present, it isn’t on page long and we get to move forward beside our heroine as she finds answers and peace leading to a joyful future.

  1. Books that have a focus on loss always stress me out, so I’m really glad you mentioned that it doesn’t last long and that the she’s able to move forward. :) This has been on my TBR since 2016 too!

    1. I understand this, Aimee. I have to be in the “right mood” to read a novel with a big loss. But this one handles it nicely. And I too had this one on my TBR for FAR too long. ;)
