‘FIRST LOVE, SECOND DRAFT’ IS OK ROM-COM
STORY: Making sure she has her next novel fiction ready isn’t something Gracie Parker is finding easy. She should because her name is synonymous with romance fiction, but with mounting pressure from her agent, well, she just isn’t finding that “thing” she needs. Things get worse when, after a silly accident (and a viral video!), Gracie ends up injured, but worse than this temporary setback is the fact that her baseball pro ex-husband returns with the goal of, well, winning her back.

But then a new project presents and Gracie along with Noah must decide what this means for their respective features….
First Love, Second Draft BOOK REVIEW
REVIEW: Saying this novel isn’t cute wouldn’t be fair because, well, it is. But as someone who has been anticipating reading this book, and others by Kinzer, I was really excited to read this. Sadly, it let me down. More than half of the novel is laser focused on the fact that Gracie cannot write. I get that this is the premise of the book, but I was looking to see her move beyond this or at least pivot to her healing relationships. The bright spot in this novel is Matt.
TV RECAP | ‘WHEN CALLS THE HEART’ RECAP SEASON 12 FINALE: HOPEFUL HEALING
Matt is the character I didn’t expect. He’s the third POV we get to hang with, and by far, the most interesting. However, no matter how well I like him, he doesn’t really “fit” in this story. By this I mean, the story for him is too fleeting and honestly, I think he’d have made an excellent hero deserving of his own story. I like the way he loves his people and how concerned he is for those that matter.
If you’ve liked Becca’s novels, I’m assuming this one will be a great read for you. It doesn’t read “smooth” for me or as if it’s totally coherent. I also didn’t really invest in the emotional side in the way I should, though given my sometimes distracted state while reading, I’m also willing to say, this is a “me not you” situation because we all know I love to love a good contemporary romance.
