‘OCEAN’S 12’: THE GANG RETURNS TO PULL OFF ANOTHER FLAWLESS HEIST

A sequel to a remake from 2001, Ocean’s 12 is entertaining and is in a tie for my favorite of the remade trio with George Clooney.

Ocean’s 12 (2004) Film Review

Pulling off a flawless Las Vegas heist was a highlight for the gang of thieves put together by Danny Ocean (Clooney). They’ve all scattered to different parts of the world now and are enjoying the wealth of their take. Rusty (Brad Pitt) is trying to make the hotel business work for him; the brothers Malloy (Casey Affleck, Scott Caan) are still arguing; Frank (Bernie Mac) runs a beauty salon; and Danny, well, he’s buying a house and settling into a version of normalcy with his ex, Tess (Julia Roberts).

Thing is, Benedict (Andy Garcia) may not have proven that Danny didn’t rob him but hasn’t forgotten that it’s Danny and his crew who did. Now armed with their respective whereabouts, he tracks each of Ocean’s 11 down and demands repayment, with interest.

The gang’s back and with them all, a couple of new faces which includes Vincent Cassel and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Of course, there’s also the rest of the familiar faces too like Matt Damon and Don Cheadle, plus the rest of the ‘11’ too. All in all, while heavily tying into Ocean’s 11, this Ocean’s 12 sequel is fun. It’s not unique in that it doesn’t stand on its own two feet because it relies on movie one, but at the same time, we have such a marvelous time with these characters, well, we really don’t care.

The excitement and fun of the production is still here, as is the head scratching we do while we make the attempt to figure out the mechanics of the operation. It may not always be the most clever heist, but like we say, Ocean’s 12 is good fun. Being a fan of caper and heist films, I’m sure I’m biased which inspires these optimistic reviews. Nonetheless, objectively speaking, the concept of these is still clever.

If you like Ocean’s 11, you’ll enjoy this. You don’t have to see ‘11’ to enjoy this one, but it does help just in terms of follow through and seeing character quirks play up. Plus, if you like this genre, why wouldn’t you want to watch more films like this?

You can stream Ocean’s 12, at publication, with AMC; or purchase on places like Apple

Content: there is some sexual innuendo and we see a man come into the bedroom where his love is, kissing her as he sits on the bed. There’s some profanity including GD, sh*t, and an f-word.
