‘FREAKIER FRIDAY’: THE GIRLS RETURN IN THE CHARMING SEQUEL
Following a common trend which is to produce sequels of “classics” (of their era), the latest to do this is Freakier Friday. This is, of course, the sequel to Disney’s 2003 Freaky Friday.
Freakier Friday (2025) Film Review
Raising a teen daughter of her own, Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan) is trying to be a good mom (whose daughter likes her on the rare day) and successful in her manager career. Her world changes when she shares a whirlwind romance with a really good man (Manny Jacinto) she is about to marry. While life is going well for her, what isn’t going smoothly is her daughter and soon-to-be-stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons) bonding. Her own daughter Harper (Julia Butters) is about to revolt and her mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), well, she’s trying to parent both Anna and Harper.
Then lighting strikes twice, and Anna and Tess again swap bodies. This time Anna with her daughter and Tess with her new granddaughter. Now they again have to find the answer that switches them back as the clock ticks towards Anna’s wedding day, this time with the added benefit of wisdom!

‘FREAKIER FRIDAY’: THE GIRLS RETURN IN THE CHARMING SEQUEL. #LindsayLohan returns with the #FreakyFriday cast for a fun time in sequel! #FreakierFriday Share on X
Much as I love catching up with favorite characters, some movies need to be left as standalones since most sequels tend to “ruin” some part of why we loved the first flick so well. While Freakier Friday’s first movie perhaps didn’t rise to the same “classic” status as others getting sequels, it still stands the cinematic test of time and is quite fine on its own. This said, the sequel is good fun.
If you love the original film (and by this, I mean the OG title with this cast), there are lots of references that only make sense if you love that film. The movie still can be enjoyed as is and by this new generation of moviegoers. It also has an impressive cast! Not only do the original stars returning impress (which makes the film better and means the filmmakers understands the audience), but the rising stars do too. They all work well together and there are some touching and fun scenes between them. The one thing that does annoy me is some people remain the same, and Jake is sort of “used” to be (weirdly) swoony over Tess (which isn’t even part of the OG plot).
If you loved the Disney version with Lohan (or other of her Disney roles), then this is a must watch. It has some laughs and while it doesn’t end the way some may hope (I “knew,” after years of watching this genre), there is still plenty of nostalgia. Plus seeing everyone reunite just to give fans a fun story, well, that alone is enough.
