A LADY’S GUIDE TO FORTUNE-HUNTING book review
REVIEW: Though I rarely read Austen (I’ve only read Sense and Sensibility), this novel feels a little like its written in homage to novels like that. It’s an interesting novel that’s a good deal of fun. The concept is super entertaining, and I like the fun sassiness of the plot. a lady’s guide to fortune hunting
BOOK REVIEW | ‘UNTIL OUR TIME COMES’ IS DEBUT NOVEL SET DURING WWII
‘A LADY'S GUIDE TO FORTUNE-HUNTING’: A FUN REGANCY ROMP. Reviewing Sophie Irwin's #HistoricalFiction romance novel. #RomanceNovel #Fiction Share on XThough historical fiction isn’t my usual cup of tea or a genre I gravitate to, which I repeat often, this is still one I did enjoy. The characters are lovely and good, and the romance mostly works. Kitty is all sass and determination, and I oddly appreciate her ability to recognize, for her era, what she needs and how to keep her family safe. She’s not wholly without flaws, but she has moxie which I love.
The novel is, for me, a solid read. It presents the era well or at least well enough that I don’t feel as though I’m in a modern novel that pretends to be historical. A drawback I do have is that the romance isn’t really here. I don’t mind the manners or the properness of the romance since that feels more authentic, but I would like to sense a bit of the love story. Nevertheless, A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting is still a solid novel with a fun plot that would, in the right hands, also be good fun as a film.

Content: nothing much to note. There isn’t really anything worth wasting time on since almost all of the “romance” happens in the final chapters. The book is a more traditional historical set novel with the more traditional manners.
I’ve had this one on my TBR a while, and this reinforces my desire to read it! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like I’d prefer it to be a little more of a romance-filled story, too, but it’s good to know this going into it.
I don’t find this one overly romantic, Courtney (it’s more about being annoyed with one another) but it’s really sweet and I’m enjoying the characters! That seems like a win. I also would definitely pick up Sophie’s other book too so I feel like overall, even with my complaining, I did enjoy this one. :) Let me know what you think.
