‘JUROR #2’ QUESTIONS A MORAL DILEMMA IN UNIQUE DRAMA
As its teaser synopsis would suggest, Juror #2 is indeed a drama about facing a moral dilemma… and it’s really quite good.
Juror #2 (2024) Film Review
Losing a child is something Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult) never thought he’d experience. Still, meeting the love of his life, at the lowest point of his, is exciting and he knows that Allison (Zoey Deutch) is the woman he wants to weather these storms with. As Alison is in the final trimester of her second pregnancy, they anticipate the birth of a child they hope makes them a family of three, Justin must report for jury duty. It’s a task he’d rather not be bothered with since his wife’s pregnancy is high risk. But he’s considered a good jury addition, and is now juror #2.
As the case and evidence unfolds, Justin realizes his ties to this case are very personal, and it reveals truths he’s not sure how to answer.

This is one of those movies I’d seen making the rounds in its production stages, but I never really gave it a great deal of thought. But since I saw it show up on streaming, I decided to give it a watch, and goodness, this immediately impresses. The plot is interesting and unique while also presenting us with questions of what to do when moral comes into play. It’s about right vs wrong, good vs (maybe) not good and the questions we have along with Justin make the film interesting.
FILM REVIEW | ‘CARRY-ON’: NETFLIX GETS IN ON HIGH STAKES ACTION MOVIE
Penned by a writer, Jonathan B. Abrams, who only has this credit to his name, Juror #2 isn’t complex in the mystery or in the way a mystery drama might be, but it’s still compelling. The story is more about the mentality of our lead rather than some kind of action-packed whodunit. Clint Eastwood also directs and features, albeit in a more minor role, his daughter Francesca Eastwood. The cast is largely good. I also enjoyed how they all played their roles. What’s more fun is seeing Nicholas Hoult in this role, because the only thing I’ve seen him in is Warm Bodies. Needless to say, this role is very different.
If you don’t like ambiguous films or you like something to be more “set in stone,” this film will not be something you like. It ends in a kind of “question mark” kind of way, although I do think the director and writing has one thing in mind when they were working on the film. Still, I think it can also be a film open to interpretation. No matter what, Juror #2 is actually good. Though not the happiest of story, I still did like everything about this story and the acting helps to bring everything together.

Content: there is an intense argument between a couple. Glass breaks and the exchange of verbal insults. There is a rude hand gesture and one use of the f-word. There is other lesser profanity as well.
