TV SERIES REVIEW | ‘WHITSTABLE PEARL,’ SERIES THREE PROVES AGAIN TO BE ONE OF THE BEST
‘THE CHELSEA DETECTIVE’ CHRISTMAS SPECIAL: SEASON THREE. Review of the #Christmas special from #AcornTV Share on XIt’s always a good thing when any of my favorite British (and international!) detectives return with new cases. One of these favorites is Max. What I surprisingly like most about these shows is that the writing is so smart. The writers don’t trip themselves up with too much personal in the lives of our investigations. Instead, there’s “just enough” to keep us curious but not so much that the personal tangles up what would otherwise be exceptional storytelling. Mostly we only see the investigators inside the office, which means we don’t get messy. This is a flaw that American TV often suffers from.
Admittedly, there is Max’s personal life that gets a bit messy and this episode deals with those intricacies too. I find it interesting that there is so much back and forth between these two but do like that there is finally some forward motion (one way or another) between them. It’s also nice that while this isn’t overly Christmas-y, we learn how everyone spends their holiday.
This installment, the latest to kick off the official third season is good and promises another set of solid stories as we see more from Max and Co. in 2025. What I love seeing most is more of the brilliance of the team as it solves the case. This is just another compelling story to solve and we enjoy seeing it all unfold. It’s a great start to what promises to be another series of solid installments.

Content: There’s a body in the bathtub. Later there is talk of a same sex relationship (if this bothers you) but there is never anything seen and later, someone say there was no romantic relationship. There’s lots of discussion about drugs. The series and episode would be TV-14.
