‘THE FINNISH LINE’ TAKES US ON AN ADVENTURE THROUGH THE ICY LAND OF FINLAND

Another in the lengthy line of 2024 Christmas movies, The Finnish Line is cute, but ultimately one I don’t consider memorable.

The Finnish Line (2024) Hallmark TV Film Review

Racing in the Joulurauha race in Finland, Anya (Kim Matula) is competing to follow in her father footsteps and uphold his legacy. Rivalries and other challenges crop up which causes more pressure for Anya, but the worst of all is when her beloved lead dog suffers an injury.

Together with her best friend (and partner in this race), Anya tries to find a solution that allows her to still complete this race. This inspires her to find help from the most unexpected place in the form of a journalist named Cole (Beau Mirchoff), a man working in a profession she isn’t fond of.

The Finnish Line is all about legacy and putting in the hard word to accomplish something. It’s worth watching if you like this subgenre of films or any of the number of titles you can find this time of year, but ultimately, it’s also kind of forgettable. The dynamic between the friends is cute and remembering that I did like both Kim and Beau in their respective prior roles.

Full of outdoor snow scenes and lots of icy adventure, there’s a good deal of fun and laughter to enjoy. Reflecting on this one, I think what I love best is that this doesn’t really look or feel exclusively Christmas. It is a title that fits the subgenre, but it’s not as doing-all-the-family-things focused, and instead is more about exploring its setting, and showcasing what Anya loves best.

While the connections and chemistry isn’t really memorable in this one, the story is still fun and like I said, if you like this type of film, it’s one worth adding to your list of possible options.

Content: nothing to note. There is some competitiveness and someone nearly dies while hanging from a cliffside.
