‘A GREEK RECIPE FOR ROMANCE’ IS CHARMING AS USUAL

Part of their Passport to Love campaign, Hallmark takes us to Greece in A Greek Recipe for Romance where a woman decides to be a little bit impulsive.

A Greek Recipe for Romance (2024) TV Film Review

Visiting Greece seems to be the best and next logical step for Abby (Danielle C. Ryan) after a setback she doesn’t see coming. Her mother is in Greece and so, making the trip is not only good for her soul, but also serves as one she can escape to where her mother waits at the end of her destination.

As she works to let time and enjoy life help her to come up with an answer to that age-old question “what’s next,” Abby meets Theo (Rafael Kariotakis). Passionate about food and cooking, through mutual aspirations, the pair team up to open a restaurant.

Like anything you’ll see from the Hallmark network, this is yet again cute. I mean, we repeat this ad nauseam when reviewing these movies because they follow the same trope and ideas, and rarely put out anything that is dynamic in that it’s unique for the romance TV movie genre. Regardless, A Greek Recipe for Romance catches my eye because, well, the setting, yes, but also because the main stars aren’t the normal for Hallmark. I’ve seen Danielle in several productions (some where she’s billed as Danielle Chuchran) but seeing her appear in this is different. I don’t think the supporting cast is great, but again, the film has all the same themes and emotions.

I like the standout (color) promotional material for this one and it has fun, friendly characters we root on. Beyond this, it seems to be a step down from some of their productions in recent years. Something about the voiceovers or sound edits or ADR, just something is not quite as polished. Or perhaps it’s something lost in translation. The plot also, as far as timelines doesn’t work well.

A Geek Recipe for Romance is still entertaining. There’s banter and annoyance between the leads in equal parts, and what’s most fun is travelling with Abby through Greece.

You can stream A Greek Recipe for Romance digitally on Hallmark Movies Now; or catch its debut and premiere on Hallmark Saturday June 15th.
