‘My One and Only’: A Sweet Romance on the Ranch

by

Some of the TV romances I see with rapid promptness, and others I wait a year (!!) or better to sit down and watch. One that falls into the trap of this latter category is My One and Only, a romance featuring Rosemary aka Pascale Hutton, a favorite actress on Hallmark Channel.

Against her better judgement and objections, Stephanie (Hutton) is chosen as the contestant for the reality dating show “The One.” This sets into motion a week of filming at a pretty ranch resort where she meets Oliver (Stephen Huszar), a good man who surprises Stephanie. As she spends time on location, during her down time, she finds herself splitting time between getting to know Oliver better, and the co-owner of the ranch, Alex Fletcher (Sam Page).

Known best in her role as Rosemary on the TV show When Calls the Heart, it’s always fun to see Pascale Hutton in a leading lady role in one of the romantic-comedies from this network. This plot reminds me of a Christmas movie the network produced, but like anything else, it’s still charming on its own.

The usual rom-com misunderstandings still plague the script and float around as do the cute sequences we love to heart-eye swoon over. Even though you can predict where everyone will end up, I still really like all of the characters and the moments of cuteness and fun. The entire production has a “warm” quality, probably in part thanks to its mostly outdoor setting and activities. Plus, the cast is solid. Sam Page is one of my favorite leading men, and he continues to be so in this role.

Those of us who appreciate the kind of movie Hallmark produces will enjoy My One and Only. It’s fun and feels a bit different with its bachelorette-esque plot line. In summary, it’s another cutie from a network with legions of enthusiastic fans.
