Part of the Miracles of Christmas line (from, who else, Hallmark), A Reason for the Season is one that is charming, but also tries to insert more meaning into its script.

A Reason for the Season (2024) TV Film Review

If ever in need of a conversation starter, Evie Lane (Taylor Cole) always has a unique story to tell, one of the unusual night she was born. Over thirty years later, Evie is a little bit spoiled by the benefits of her mother’s very successful Lane Cosmetics company. Her mother, Elizabeth (Sarah-Jane Redmond), is also a force, a shadow Evie lives in. She worked hard to build this company and raise Evie, too. But on the cusp of receiving her trust fun, Elizabeth puts a stipulation on Evie.

In order to be given access, she must first track down five strangers who helps her mother and Evie the night she was born. She must then grant a wish of theirs. Failure on her part means her money goes to charity. This inspires Evie to hire a local attorney Kyle Newman (Kevin McGarry) to help her find these strangers…

On the Hallmark Mystery side of Christmas movies, there is also a story thread that is a bit deeper than the films you find on their sister channel. This one looks at what it means to give and the impact that can have not only on the receiver but the benefactor, too. It’s a pretty good movie and one that logically should earn high user ratings. Based on what I see, A Reason for the Season is also the favorite in ratings (premiere) for the networks Miracles of the Season titles.

With Kevin McGarry (from When Calls the Heart) leading the cast alongside Taylor Cole (another favorite star), this title has merits. It boasts a story that balances comedy and emotion pretty well; (wisely) allows its heroine to confess to something; has a cute skating scene; and we also see Taylor in a role that feels different than her usual characters.

Easy to watch and entertaining, this drama is sweet, yes, but it also has a sense of inspiration that we don’t always find in this subgenre.
