‘YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED’ TO THE MOST IMPERFECT WEDDING (EVER!)

Back in a genre her name is perhaps synonymous with, Reese Witherspoon returns in this Prime Video comedy that is perhaps a little more raunchy than funny. Here’s what You’re Cordially Invited is all about.

You’re Cordially Invited (2025) Film Review

Putting on the most perfect wedding is the goal of Margot (Reese Witherspoon). She’s a perfectionist reality TV producer who uses this personality trait to pull off the ideal wedding for her baby sister, Neve (Meredith Hagner). Things seem to be going along all according to plan… until they aren’t. Once Margot arrives at the destination, her family brings out the worst in her, and she finds something she never expects, the wedding venue has been double booked!

The second booking is for the daughter of Jim (Will Ferrell). Jim’s entire world revolves around his little girl and so making this wedding perfect is the only option. What he isn’t prepared for is the meltdowns between their two very different families, and frantic dash to pull off not just one but two perfect weddings.

Going off the promotional art floating around for this film, saying this one is a bit wacky doesn’t seem unfair. You’re Cordially Invited is indeed a little bit crazy. Sometimes there is a reason for this, and then something it feels a little too silly (and even, comedy creepy). If you’re familiar with Witherspoon’s filmography, this comedy is far more like Hot Pursuit than Sweet Home Alabama. When it comes to genre, if you liked Jennifer Lopez’s Shotgun Wedding, well then this is also something you may enjoy. Both actors are familiar with comedy, and they do well in the roles. The lesser cast is also good, too; and we get to see Jimmy Tatro, most recently, from Home Economics.

I did enjoy this one a good deal more than anticipated, but it’s not going to be the kind of film I enjoy time and again. It just doesn’t have that kind of timeless feeling you love when you watch this genre. The Peyton Manning bit is hilarious and surprisingly (to a point), I think Neve’s wedding is darling and lovely. Since Reese leads it, there are snippets of charm and moments that make us want to love this, but it never fully reaches that point.

Content: this film has many uses of the f-word (a cluster crops us before five minutes pass), and other lesser profanities like sh*t or damn. There is also some minor sexual innuendo (like a weird conversation about missing sex with a partner) and content. The film has an R-rating, which is almost exclusively because of the two dozen or so f-words.
