POP CULTURE NEWS 176

KELCE vs SOCIAL MEDIA MELTDOWN

Social media is all a-twitter about the remarks of Travis Kelce during a press conference leading up to the Super Bowl on Sunday. He’s talked about everything from engagement rumors (some people think Sunday could signal one) to being asked what he thinks about the first time a sitting President will be at Sunday’s game. His response, in part (as multiple articles report), is to say “That’s awesome. It’s a great honor […] I think you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there — it’s the best country in the world — and that’s pretty cool.”

Social media is melting down at this response. Presumably they’re reading it as him saying he likes or agrees with the policies or person. All I have to say is, we have too much time on our hands. I’ve seen numerous people (athletes, celebrities) through the years say they are honored to meet with a president, have them at an event, or any other number of replies. Some people can separate the idea of it being cool to meet a sitting president or the person from whether they agree with policies. Maybe Kelce is one of those people. If so, good for him. Maybe he’s not (and maybe he likes the current administration). Outside of who he’s dating, I know nothing about his beliefs or politics, and I don’t care. Whatever his opinion is, his response was professional and there was nothing wrong with it.

MORE stories

According to one report (also officially announced on Instagram), in the best kind of news (to me), the Acorn TV original My Life is Murder will return for a fifth season and may debut late this year. Lucy Lawless will return as Alexa in a series of eight new cases.

The trailer for Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps dropped. Likely a film Marvel is hoping does way better than the last Fantastic Four flick, this one will have Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby in the leads, and its trailer cleared 202 million views in 24 hours (across the platforms). The film will drop in theaters on July 25.

Netflix dropped the entirety of their fan favorite show Sweet Magnolias yesterday. I haven’t watched it all (I binged two episodes), however what I did see, I love. The spontaneity (that is how you do a joyful event), the romance (budding and established), and the friendship, you’ll see this and more in the early episodes. Presumably, this will be themes we’ll continue to see in the rest of (if you are like me, and haven’t seen it all) this fourth season yet.

Which of the above stories did you read about? Which ones did we neglect to share about? Did any of these stories make you excited? Let’s chat!
