POP CULTURE NEWS, EDITION NINE: NEW PERIOD DRAMA OUR WAY COMES!

I feel like a broken record in saying this every dang week, but honestly, I cannot find much cool news today. Why, I don’t know. Some just doesn’t interest me, other of the pop culture news is a bit “too much” and some of it, could very possibly be my mood, which is salty and struggling. But that said, we still love a fun (or interesting?) pop culture news edition nine Friday – and I will say, one story follows up another one we shared previously.

The one thing I did find that I’m all kinds of giddy about is the arrival of NEW PERIOD DRAMA. Needless to say, while I’m not excited about its network home or the cast (I really don’t know them), I am hopeful its creator means a lovely story. Hot off the press, here’s this week’s ‘pop culture news.’

POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION NINE

1: BUSYBODY BUSY

One (or was it two?) “editions” ago, we talked about the post Chris Pratt shared on his social media complementing his wife. Which, by the way, I see NOTHING wrong with. Well, actress Busy Philipps has chimed in and gosh, but she is, well… she’s wrong to be polite. Her take is as follows.

According to Yahoo News, on her podcast, she said things about how his post was “toxic, and reinforced the notion of a power imbalance seen in a lot of relationships.” Um, yeah, no, Busy. That is NOT what Chris’ post did. Yahoo News further goes on to report that she said, quote:

“And even like, the [f-ng] tired bit that he’s doing which is ‘She runs the show I occasionally open a bag of pickles’. That’s how [f-ing] dumb what he said is. You are a Marvel superhero. You made $480 million last year. You work non-stop. You don’t just open a [f-ing] jar of pickles.”

According to the same outlet, Philipps went on (and on!) to accuse Chris Pratt of being “possessive” by saying, “He has possessions, and she’s one of them.”

I just cannot with this form of “feminism.” It’s not only disrespectful to Pratt (and I reject any kind of premise that men are worthless or don’t deserve respect), but also disrespectful to the relationship he has with his wife (which we have no right to assume isn’t loving), and also disrespectful to Katherine, Pratt’s wife.

Seems to me, Busy is trying to stir up something she’s no right to stir up.

2: MORE BEYOND THE ABBEY

The one thing that does make me SUPER happy is the teaser (also known as way too short) trailer for Julian Fellowes next period piece, The Gilded Age. The series is set to air on HBO, which is a new network home compared to its early day origins. I’m not thrilled with this because given its home means there’s more chance this one will lose all of the charm of Downton Abbey. HBO isn’t known for its “sweet” productions.

I’m also not in love with the majority of the cast. However there are some names I don’t know so I’m going to be hopeful and try to keep an open mind. Have you seen the trailer? What do you think?

PS; we will say Blake Ritson as one of the cast members who played in PBS’ Mansfield Park. There’s also Harry Richardson from Doctor Thorne, and Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon are two of the bigger names.

FINAL [PARTING] NEWS

Oh, yeah. And Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello broke up this week. Honestly I never cared about them individually or a couple, so I don’t really care. That said, I did think Camila’s song ‘First Man’ (which I think is partially inspired by Shawn) is sweet. Did you love them together?

Your turn! What sort of big (or little) pop culture things did you see this week? Did the stories make you smile, mad or not care? What do you think of our (minimal) features today? Comment all the comments below! Let’s chat.

Thank you for visiting! Please, do come back soon.
