CELEBRATE ‘ERIN BROCKOVICH,’ 25 YEARS LATER! THE 3 REASONS WHY THIS FILM STILL INSPIRES
One of the early 2025 movie anniversaries that earns a feature is the famous film Erin Brockovich. The film, which was nominated for numerous awards and winner of them, too, is a film likely many of us remember. In 2025, the film is twenty five years old, which is what inspires me to celebrate on this day Erin Brockovich 25 years later!
LIST | THE LOVE STORY OF KAT LANDRY AND ELLIOT FROM ‘THE WAY HOME’
The film won its famous leading lady, Julia Roberts, an Oscar (along with other prestigious awards) and follows Roberts playing the titular character which is base don’t the life of a real person. The plot follows Erin Brockovich as she stubbornly investigates a sketchy real estate company, while working as a paralegal. What she finds is the multi-million-dollar company is hiding secrets from local residents that could destroy not just a town, but be a danger to everyone who lives there.
A film that, up until now, I think I’ve only seen once, Erin Brockovich isn’t one I talk about a lot as a result. But given its turning the big 2-5 this year (March 17th to be precise) and marked another big milestone for its leading lady back in the day, let’s take a look back on the reasons why this film is special.

THE AWARD WINNER
This is probably obvious, but I think Julia Roberts is excellent in this role. She deserved recognition (she won an Oscar for Best Actress in 2001) for playing this fierce woman. She is still magnetic as is always something she brings to roles since her breakout in Pretty Woman, but in this role, which perhaps is not something she was best known for prior to this 2000 title, she also gets to be gritty and show this off as Erin.
THE CONVERSATIONS
While it’s not pleasant, because the people are going through it, I think all of the conversations between Erin and the people she’s fighting for are meaningful and special. They all seem to hold meaning and matter not just for the sake of the viewer, but it’s also obvious that this matters to the characters, too, which is a sign of good acting.

THE DETERMINATION
This film lacks in some areas, but determination is not one of them. In its heroine, we get this in spades. As Erin, Julia Roberts plays a character to be admired. Although in this case, she plays someone who is a real person rather than one of her many other delightful fictional characters, and so there is perhaps more at stake with how she plays the role. Erin may have made choices that bother some of us or we all agree with, but I admire her strength, determination and the love she has for her children. This is also one of her weaknesses too since, in this portrait at least, she doesn’t have the capacity to understand where someone else is coming from. Or if she does, she doesn’t let on.
