THE LOVE STORY OF KAT LANDRY AND ELLIOT FROM ‘THE WAY HOME’

Following a TV slate rebrand, Hallmark ambitiously tries their hand at making a kind of epic time travel drama. The Way Home is this effort. There’s plenty of romantic notions and moments throughout the series but the bigger one that crosses from past to present is between Kat and Elliot. This is why we’re spotlighting the Kat and Elliot love story.

If you haven’t seen the show, the overview is the Landry women find they can time travel through a portal on a piece of their land. Daughter Kat Landry returns home with her own teenage daughter when she receives a letter from her mother, Del. Kat shares a past with Elliot Augustine, the cute nerdy and smart boy with whom she reunites as an adult. In the present, they renew their friendship and Kat comes to realize that possibly there is something beyond their friendship. Let’s look at some of the cute moments between them in their romance timeline.

THE LOVE STORY of KAT LANDRY and ELLIOT AUGUSTINE

PINING AND PERFECTION

THE EPISODE: Season One, Episode 5

For years, Elliot pines for Kat. She’s his best friend and she matters, something she doesn’t extend to him. Instead she blames him for “leaving” despite him being there. While they walk together, Kat brings up that she feels something between them since her return home. She wonders if Elliot does too. We know his answer but playing a little hard to get, he tells her, “I’ve been waiting a long, long time to kiss you, Kat Landry. And when I do, it’s gonna be perfect.”

KISS ME

THE EPISODE: Season One, Episode 8

“Come on, would you just kiss me already!”

“I don’t care about perfect. I just didn’t want us to miss our moment.”

The kiss moment in season one is a fan favorite for these too. It also comes before all of the big love triangle stuff in latter seasons.

TRUST

THE EPISODE: Season One, Episode 9

“You have to trust me too, I have never seen more clearly.”

LIGHTS

Reminiscing about the past, Kat and Elliot are set up to string lights for the Founder’s day event. The scene isn’t romantic in some big gesture kind of way, but it is charming and full of sweetness. It’s these quiet moments that I think have the greater impact on their big picture love story.

FIRST CHOICE

THE EPISODE: Season Two, Episode 8

After a fight, Elliot follows Kat outside where she tries to calm down. Justifiably, Elliot asks Kat about the truth of the feelings she may have for someone else, and he also fairly asks her how he’s to know if he’s her “first choice” or just someone she uses for convenience. When she answers back that she cannot choose him because he doesn’t ever confess to her, he comes in close and kisses her.

I WANT YOU TO CHOOSE ME

THE EPISODE: Season Two, Episode 10

Being in the shadows of Kat’s life for years, and taken for granted in those years, Elliot confesses to Kat that he wants her to choose him. In front of the fire, they share a kiss before Kat… requests time… yet again.

the DANCE

In the first episode of season three, Eliot and Kat share a kitchen dance and while it’s short (as nearly all of their moments are), it’s still swoony because of the lighting which keeps the scene intimate.

COME HOME to YOU

After time travelling (again), Kat discovers a folk song that reminds her of her would be love Thomas, a man she met while in the 1800s. In the episode, this song triggers thoughts of him as she dreams about and remembers him, including a passionate kiss or two they share. But when Elliot asks her about what she learned during her trip, Kat simply tells him that being with him reminds her how good it is to have him to come home to him. They share a kiss on the porch before a face from Elliot’s past returns to mess with them…

‘BABY I DON’T WANNA KNOW’

THE EPISODE: Season Three, Episode 7

“Time cast a spell on me, but you won’t forget me…”

While both keep secrets (are we surprised), these two share a romantic karaoke song as a montage of their moments together play. In the present, as they sing, they share eye contact and in the emotion, we know that Elliot loves Kat… the question that remains is… how much do they love? Later, the pair are on their couch, talking and holding hands. And that question of how deep their love is comes up when Eliot confesses that his ex kissed him. As Kat leaves, Eliot asks, what happens now? While we understand the feeling of being sad, we as the audience know that Kat isn’t being honest about her affections either. And this sends her running to the 1800s….

THE POND

THE EPISODE: Season Three, Episode 9

In the aftermath of a fire that nearly takes the life of Kat’s brother, Jacob, Kat remains in the 1800s, wanting to help the ancestor whose home burned. Before he leaves, Jake tells Kat that she needs to deal with whatever she needs to do in regard to her would be romance with Thomas. As Kat tries to help the people she loves in the 1800s, in contemporary times, Elliot struggles. He thinks of Kat, of how they left things. He knows she’s with Thomas, and he does what he always does, he waits, knowing she’ll return. But finally he decides to make a choice. He’s going after Kat, and so he risks a trip in the pond, hopeful beyond his greatest hopes that it will take him to Kat.

It does and the pair find each other in the darkness. As Kat breaks down at the enormity of her pain and loneliness, she hears her name in the darkness. Realizing who the voice is, she runs to him. Without hesitation, Elliot kisses her. “You are amazing,” she tells him. It would seem, Kat is finally choosing the one who has always been there.

I LOVE YOU

THE EPISODE: Season Three, Episode 10

In the final moments of season three, which just aired (and I did haphazardly recap), I got the moment I’ve been looking for. They were vulnerable, both admitting faults (though we know I hold Kat more responsible because the girl runs off) in why their love story sometimes fails. Kat gets things started by opening up, and with affection she straight up tells him, I love you. In turn he shares his failings, which brings her to tell him that how he loves her, that’s a gift. They mutually agree to move beyond this and love each other as they seal this pledge with a kiss. Elliot also promises a proposal… when the time is right.

…will this mean they stay together? I like to hope so, but if not, this is where I’ll remember them.

Do you like this pair? What do you think is next for them? Do you think they’ll part? Will they be a forever pairing? Do you think Kat means what she says and she stays loyal and true to Elliot? Comment all of your thoughts below.

Thank you for visiting; please return again soon.
