This film doesn’t lean into every technical detail such as historical accuracy or “looks” (costuming or makeup) being accurate. Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers is nonetheless, quite delightful. I love that it’s a film that fits with what the network is known for (mysteries) but also steps into the past. The cast is also recognizable and likable which additionally includes Nathan Witte and while not familiar to these genre productions, I also quite like Amira Anderson playing a sassy coroner.
This is a film that has a relatively fast pace and moves its plot forward with little fuss or wasted time. It’s also a title that doesn’t seem to have high user ratings, which probably lessens its chances of receiving more installments. It does have multiple novels in the series on which this is inspired by though, so never say never. Irrespective of this, I think the film is entertaining and has a fun opening title credit sequence. It’s reminiscent of many period drama mysteries we love and will also please fans of Hallmark Mystery, too.
