WHAT’S NEXT FOR ‘THE CHICKEN SISTERS’? SEASON ONE EPISODE EIGHT RECAP IS SECRETS AND LOVE

After eight episodes, all of which made a debut on Hallmark+, and now on broadcast TV, The Chicken Sisters airs its finale tonight. The story is a familial one that looks back generations and unveils a secret this week, too. Let’s get into this while posting up a The Chicken Sisters season one recap.

The plot, just in case you haven’t been watching or don’t know, is described as being all about the estranged “sisters Amanda and Mae [who] are reunited when reality show Kitchen Clash comes to their town, and the competition between their two feuding restaurants heats up.” The show has a pretty good cast led by Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick and is Southern things, family and fried chicken, too. Spoilers ahead!

Let’s get into what happens this week. First, there is the fact that Amanda’s teen daughter, Frankie, finds a letter leaving behind a secret which caused the long-standing feud between the families running the restaurant. This final episode opens with Amanda and Mae learning that their mom, Gus, has MS and has been keeping this quiet. The drama doesn’t stop there though because, yes, this secret being out in the open is very uncomfortable for Gus and she struggles letting others help her.

Bringing the truth of the feud (that Frannie and Mimi’s friendship breaking was “arranged”) to her grandmothers, it would seem this, along with Gus’ recent health struggles softens the women.

The chicken clash continues taping its show where the two restaurants are battling to win. During the taping, Mae’s teammate, Sergio (incidentally, the man Amanda is on the verge of having an affair with!), lets his temper get the best of him and he takes a swing at Frank Jr., Amanda’s hubby. This means he is unable to compete and inspires Amanda to make a choice. The only reason she stays as long as she does is Nancy, whom she loves dearly. But Amanda has had it. She’s leaving Frank Jr., and she teams up with Mae, the sister she needs to repair a relationship with.

The competition resumes! And Nancy too joins her daughter-in-law.

Elsewhere, despite his wife’s choice, Frank Jr. doesn’t give up. While he continues to divide, the Frannie’s and Mimi’s matriarchs (Nancy and Gus) decide to become The Chicken Sisters while presenting their dish to the judge. The winner is… Frank Jr.!

This inspires a series of events. The first is Kitchen Clash host Sabrina to turn in her fake enthusiasm for this job and quit. The second is Amanda keeps her backbone. She isn’t backing down. She kicks her hubby out of their shared home (and has a conversation with Sergio about this all). Then there is Mae and her fiancé. She tells him she’s not ready to leave, and assumes he’ll take issue with this… little does she realize that he loves her so much that yes, he too feels peace in this small town where she comes from.

Most important, this begins to, hopefully, heal the long feud between these two families, and they begin to heal and rebuild.
