20+ OF THE MOVIES ALL ABOUT WISHES
It’s Make a Wish day which, for content creation, means I’m taking inspiration from the day and putting together a list of film titles that befits this subject and making it work for the day, which means we’re asking what types of movies about wishes are there? I’m pretty sure there are quite a few, so here we go, let’s get the search engine warmed.
LIST | WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT ‘THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY’ FINALE
20+ OF THE MOVIES ALL ABOUT WISHES. A list about movies that grant #wishes for #MakeaWish day! #MovieList Share on XFrom literal birthday wishes to wishes about life and making changes, there’s a lot of possible titles to feature. Most of which are good movies, too. Here we go. Let’s make a wish and see what titles we find that works well for this list.
MOVIES about WISHES
17 AGAIN
An older title, this one isn’t so much a wish (it has a time vortex or something) as it is about a middle-aged man who, bored with life and feeling lost as his marriage crumbles, gets a second change to relive life and do things differently when he wakes up in the body of his seventeen-year-old self. I’m including this one though because it is about someone who has a possible wish for some different type of life. Zac Efron plays this version of Mike while the late Matthew Perry plays the older version. Leslie Mann and Michelle Trachtenberg also appear.

13 going on 30
Struggling to fit in with the “cool” people, awkward 13-year-old Jenna makes a desperate wish to be away from all of this by being “30, flirty and thriving.” As any millennial will know, she of course does get this wish and wakes the next day to be exactly this! Judy Greer and Mark Ruffalo round out the main cast.

ALADDIN
Ridiculous as it may sound, I cannot remember if this film has actual wishes or not! I think it does, but I do know it has a Genie so there has to be some wishing, right? There is of course the classic animated version of this story from Disney in 1992. Then, in 2019, Guy Ritchie remade the film as a live-action flick that had a group of newcomers alongside Will Smith.

CINDERELLA
This one may not fit the list “neatly” in the way some of these do, but there is the whole “a dream is a wish” song and Cinderella does get a fairy godmother who grants her the wish she has to attend the pretty ball with her stepsisters. There is the 1950 classic animated flick from Disney then in 2015, Disney remade the movie as live action with Lily James playing Cinderella and much to my surprise, Richard Madden playing a solid and swoony prince. Cate Blanchett also plays the stepmum role really well. Also, the costuming in this? Gorgeous! I think it’s also fair to say that this title (which I think was their first) is really Disney’s best live action remake; it does a nice job of keeping the nostalgia but also making the story its own. Chris Weitz is the credited screenplay writer.

EMMA’S WISH
This is one of those TV films from the 90s and is about a woman who, on her 75th birthday, receives a “magical ring” that gives her the wish to be young again. She uses this to try and reconnect with a daughter who doesn’t recognize her.

IN MY DREAMS
Two people struggling to find “the one” both toss coins in a fountain only to begin having dreams of one another. Natalie and Nick are the characters who then learn they only have one week to turn their dreams into a reality! I’m not sure how much of this fits the movies about wishes titling, but it was a film I enjoyed once upon a time. Katharine McPhee and Mike Vogel star.

IRISH WISH
Falling in love with a man who doesn’t know she exists is a problem for Maddie when her bestie meets and falls in love with him. As she travels to Ireland with the happy couple to see them marry, Maddie discovers that a legend there can grant wishes. She wishes for true love, and then finds this when she wakes the next morning as the bride! Lindsay Lohan leads this cast.

JUST my LUCK
This one isn’t about wishing per se, but it IS about a woman who has all the luck, and nothing ever seems to go wrong in her life until it does and her luck is swapped (in a kiss!) with someone who is quite down on his luck. The cast is pretty good (for their respective roles) in this one and includes Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine, Samaire Armstrong, Faizon Love and Missi Pyle. I’m kind of “making” this one fit by my own rules, but sometimes that’s part of the fun, right?

THREE WISHES
According to the Prime Video page, Three Wishes is a story that starts with “an unexplained act of charity” when “Jeanne Holman, picks up an injured, apparent tramp and takes him home to care for him little realising who he was or the effect he would have on her life and those of her family.” Patrick Swayne and Marry Elizabeth Mastrantonio star in this 1995 title which I know nothing about!

THE WISH SWAP
One of the more recent Hallmark originals, this one is darling and follows two strangers celebrating their birthdays at the same restaurant. Both have big goals and wishes to make, only when they start to come true they realize that they somehow are getting each other’s wishes! This sets into motion a cute romcom.

WISH UPON a STAR
In one of her earliest roles, Katherine Heigl plays a popular and “mean” high school girl whose younger sister is constantly overlooked and living in the long shadow of her popular sibling. When she makes a wish to be like her sister, the girls swap bodies and lives, all while coming to realize there is more to each other than they realize.

The film is “not rated” but would be a PG or “soft” PG-13

According to its Prime Video page, this one has Jordan Ladd, Jason London, and Ernest Bognine in leading roles.
