A FALL 2022 TBR BOOK LIST: WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ENJOY BUT PROBABLY WON’T

by

We go through this every year. The usual “I don’t really read the books on my TBR, but I like making them” spiel. Nonetheless, repetitive, or not, this remains true. We’re still going to make a fall 2022 TBR because why not, and who knows! If suddenly I do get this reading burst of energy, perhaps I’ll actually read some of these. A girl can try to inspire.

Because of this, I’m still going to look through my bookshelf and see what I can come up with. Because I still love to remind myself what I can read if my reader bug would reactivate and all that. So, because of these factors, we’re going to make a TBR because honestly, who knows. Perhaps this too could be a way to inspire. Let’s meet our candidates.

*Note: Yes, I also have a few Christmas options on this list. This because I would start to read Christmas fiction in November. Before that, I’m really not a Christmas ready type of reader.

FALL 2022 TBR

MARPLE: TWELVE NEW MYSTSERIES

Ok, here’s the thing. I’m not sure I’d like this. It’s a collection of 12 stories all about Agatha Christie’s iconic character but written by multiple authors, and some authors, based on what I’ve read about their books, just won’t be me kind of voices. So… should I give this collection a go or no? Goodreads

PRIDE, PREJUDICE AND OTHER FLAVORS, SONALI DEV

If it’s good, we love a Pride and Prejudice re-telling. This one has our Lizzy and Darcy as a doctor and up-and-coming chef. Sounds like it could be fun. Goodreads

BLAME IT ON THE MISTLETOE, BETH GARROD

Yes we have to add a Christmas read (or two) because if I read any, I’d be find starting in November which covers our fall TBR timeframe. This follows a social media star looking to swap places for the Christmas season. Goodreads

A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER, HOLLY JACKSON

Any fall TBR needs a mystery or two, maybe more than Christmas fiction! This one is about a teen who looks into a case from a few years prior where a boy was accused of the murder of his girlfriend… but is he guilty? Goodreads

BY ANY OTHER NAME, LAUREN KATE

Lauren’s adult novel follows a successful romance editor who has to work with a successful but elusive author in a situation that may toss all of her plans for a loop. Goodreads

TO SIR, WITH LOVE, LAUREN LAYNE

This follows a woman who tries to keep her father’s business going only to find there may be someone wanting to buy it out. Goodreads

SCOTSMAN IN THE STACKS, ALANA OXFORD

Follows a librarian who just may meet her ideal match in the library. Goodreads

THE MAID, NITA PROSE

Follows a twenty-something woman who is socially awkward. Nonetheless she works hard in her job as a hotel maid, and maybe even falls into a mystery. This is one of those books likened to Clue, plus I saw someone gush over this on Instagram, so I had to snag a copy. Seems like good fall reading, right? Goodreads

AS SEEN ON TV, MERIDITH SCHORR

We love a cute (hopefully) contemporary read so here’s hoping this one is one of them. It’s set to follow a woman who, after failing EPICALLY in the dating department, decides to head to a small town to find love. After all, that’s how it works in the movies, right? Goodreads

FIELD NOTES ON LOVE, JENNIFER E. SMITH

Pretty sure this is being adapted (or was) into a film. Needless to say, this means I should give it a read. It follows two people who, after different kinds of rejection, wind up together in what turns out to be a weeklong train trip. Goodreads

Thanks for making the time to stop here; I’m grateful! I do apologize for not visiting your spaces sooner, but I’m glad you visit and appreciate that. I look forward to seeing your Fall TBR lists.

Which of the above books would you read – or have you read? Do you have new or on your shelf titles on your seasonal TBRs? How do you decide what to add? Sound off – let’s chat in the comment section!

  1. Great list and and spin on this week’s prompt. The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is definitely a must-read! Me too I love making TBR and I’m hopeful I’ll read every books on my to-read list… Until I get distracted by booktube, bookstagram, KU…. and start reading the new shiny titles everyone is talking about!
    Have a great week 🙂

    1. OHMYGOSH, yes! Booktube used to be a SERIOUS thing for me. I had some favorite channels I followed and enjoyed seeing their videos. I kind of fell away from that a while ago and now reading too. But I plan to rediscover reading because it’s my favorite and making these lists always makes me go, “I *really* want to read that one…” YAY for ‘Good Girl.’ Cannot wait to read that (especially now since it’s being adapted). Hope we both read some of these, Rae. :)

  2. I can’t bring myself to read Christmas books until December, but I’ve started seeing them pop up in publisher emails already. I’m intrigued by the Marple stories.

    1. I would like to NOT read or see Christmas films until December (most think I’m odd for that :D), but I do usually start watching movies in October (because I create content around them) and ideally I would read a book or two starting in November. We’ll see how this year goes. :) Thanks for visiting, Ellie!

    1. PS: Just wanted to say, I did try to visit and comment on your list from last week, Lydia. Tried a couple different browsers and a notice about an “internal” error comes up. Sorry!

        1. It could be my end, but just wanted you to know I did have a comment all typed and ready to submit and that failed. Anyway, thanks for always visiting here. :)

  3. I’ve read Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors, and the next book in the series, Recipe for Persuasion. They were enjoyable enough to finish, but I didn’t really connect to them the way I’d hoped. But lots of other people love them, so that may be a ME thing!

    1. I know what you mean about not connecting to some stories, Rachel. I often feel this way about popular movies that EVERYONE seems to love and I see it and am like, “ok. Cute but… not great.” But like you say, I often feel that’s a me thing. Oh, well! It’s still fun sometimes to read a book even if it’s not what you hoped. :)

    1. So glad to know this – and I hope so too! Even more excited now it’s being adapted as a film or TV show (cannot remember which). :) Thanks for visiting, Jo.

  4. I love a Good Girl’s Guide to Murder – and there is a TV show coming out on the BBC too which is very exciting! It’s such an immersive and addictive read that I couldn’t stop thinking about for ages afterwards! I also love a Pride and Prejudice retelling and I’ll have to add that one to my list!
    Happy TTT!

    1. YES! I haven’t even read the book yet (which has been on my shelf for a while) and I’m excited about that BBC adaptation. Should be great. Fun. If you read this P+P re-telling, let me know what you think, Zoe and thank you for visiting. :)

    1. I’m glad to know that, Pam. I saw someone recommend it on Instagram and thought it sounded really good, but honestly, she and I do have different tastes in books and TV, so we’ll see. ;) Glad to know “As Seen on TV” is a fun read! It sounds it. :) Thanks for visiting.
