‘COUNTDOWN’ PRIME VIDEO REVIEW IS NOT A NEW MYSTERY, BUT STILL A GOOD ONE
A new mystery thriller from Prime Video, Countdown is fast-paced and quite fun, though it may not stand out from the pack.
Countdown (2025) Prime Video TV Series Review
Murder can be a tough thing to deal with for law enforcement, and when it’s one of their own, it’s even harder. When a Homeland Security officer is boldly murdered, a task force is formed to investigate what this murder is trying to hide and what kind of killer is bold enough to kill in broad daylight with witnesses? What did this officer see… or know? One of the recruits to the task force is LAPD detective Mark Meachum (Jensen Ackles). Good at his job, Meachum has been working undercover and has ghosts along with aa reckless side. Alongside other law enforcement officers, from all branches, the best candidates are found, all with a single goal: find this killer.
This is all led be FBI agent Nathan Blythe (Eric Dane). Among the talented officers hunting him is DEA agent Amber Oliveras (Jessica Camacho), a fourteen-year vet; FBI agents Bell (Elliot Knight) whose specialty is terrorist threats and cyber expert (just don’t call her a “hacker, please!”) Evan Shepherd (Violett Beane); LAPD detective Luke Finau (Uli Latukefu), a man with nearly twenty years to his record and expertise in gangs; and the right-hand man to Blythe is Damon Drew (Jonathan Togo), an analysis and intelligence specialist watches over them all.
‘COUNTDOWN’ PRIME VIDEO REVIEW IS NOT A NEW MYSTERY, BUT STILL A GOOD ONE. Reviewing the #PrimeVideo show with #JensenAckles. What did you think of #Countdown? #Mystery Share on X
This show is, from what I see, good. The pace is solid, the bringing together of various team members isn’t unique, but a good story can make anything work, and I think Countdown does have this. While the story may not help the series stand out, I do think putting Jensen Ackles in the lead is a big pro. This is because Ackles is an established TV show face and one audiences love and know well after his long running career on CW’s Supernatural.
TV SHOW REVIEW | ‘THE WATERFRONT’: NETFLIX GETS HIGH ON THE FAMILY DRAMA
Unlike most Amazon MGM Studios productions, this series has thirteen episodes. Most only have 6, 8 or 10, so this show feels like it is getting some high expectations. Within five or so minutes, we are thrown into the mystery with this murder and then we see the arrival of the man who is putting this team together. It’s a team that consists of interesting characters and people playing them, but it’s also a group that all have their own attitude problems. The cast IS good. I think this is the first significant thing I’ve seen Ackles in and I like him as a leading man, as far as looks. As for Meachum’s character, well, that I reserve my judgement on. It’s also so fun to see Jonathan Tongo again after binge-watching CSI: Miami a while back.
The show has a quick pace and is quite entertaining. The subject is serious, but at its start the adrenaline rushes and is full of chases. I’m not sure it will last though or if it will stand out among its peers. Regardless of this, before episode one ends, we learn secrets about our task force and discover that there are sad things going on with these characters. (Which, as its creator has stated, means the title has more to do with its plot.) It also makes me sad because yes, this makes us wonder how long these characters will last, and I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t like believing characters will die at the end. Plus, what does this mean for any possible season two? Time will tell how this all plays out.
But for now, you can binge the first three episodes, which leaves us and one of the characters gasping for breath, of this fast-paced thriller.

Stream, at publication, Countdown exclusively on Prime Video; episodes one through three are available. Episode four will drop on Wednesday the second.
Content: the F-word is casually thrown around and there are lots of fights. A man is in a brutal (but short-lived) fist fight in the opening. There is also quite a lot of violence from car chases and crashes to gun fights with big weapons and hand guns. Note; this content only reflects episodes one – three.
