THE POP CULTURE NEWS BULLETIN 200

The Pop Culture News Bulletin is a weekly roundup of the recent and trending news stories in the entertainment industry; or stories that fall into the pop culture subcategory. Every Friday we feature stories that fit the content we frequently cover.

September fourth will see the expansion (at least on Paramount+) of the NCIS universe with the 10-episode show NCIS: Tony and Ziva. The show featured at Comic Con where its stars, original NCIS star Michael Weatherley, and long-running star Cote De Pablo, introduced a new trailer. See it below.

According to the press site’s logline, the show “picks up after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. Since then—and where we find them in NCIS: TONY & ZIVA—Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.”

Rumors made the rounds already, but officially now is the news that Erin Krakow and Tyler Hynes are reuniting (after It was Always You). The reunion is for a 2025 Christmas flick Christmas Above the Clouds. The film is supposed to be a reimagining of A Christmas Carol and like their first outing, it will debut on Hallmark this season.

In a social media posting that likely broke the Internet, Travis Kelce posted a carousal of photos that marks the “debut” of Taylor Swift on his Instagram page.

Much ado has been made this week of Anne Hathaway being on set filming in New York for her upcoming sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2. The film is a follow-up to the 2006 (basically cult classic) film The Devil Wears Prada. In it, Hathaway plays harried assistant and fashion challenged Andy Sachs to Meryl Steep’s impeccable fashion editor Miranda Priestly. The plot of the sequel has been kept quiet so far but it will reunite Streep and original film star Emily Blunt with Hathaway.

As an aside from the reporting and news on this sequel (which I think should have more impartiality in general), I am going to share a personal opinion. This observation is that The Devil Wears Prada is one of those classic cult titles that is quite perfect as is. It ends happily and stands out on its own. Will I see this sequel? Sure, but I think in some sense this sequel will “ruin” what is so memorable about the original.

Let’s hear from you now! Did you keep up with any of these stories? Which ones will you follow? Did any disappoint? Comment all the thoughts down in the comment section below.
