POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION SIXTY: THE INTERNET LOSES ITS MIND + SHUT UP! SHE’S BACK

by

Friday is back! How are you starting your weekend? I’m starting mine with creative and graphic work, writing this and probably making some dinner at some point. Beyond this, we’re currently here writing up the round up of pop culture type stories from the week. Because that’s our weekly tradition. pop culture news edition sixty

MOVIE NEWS | ‘PRINCESS DIARIES 3’ IS NEWS YOU ALREADY KNOW (BUT I’M STILL GOING TO TALK ABOUT)
✨POP CULTURE NEWS EDITION SIXTY: THE INTERNET LOSES ITS MIND + SHUT UP! SHE’S BACK✨ #ANNEHATHAWAY RETURNS TO ICONIC ROLE + INTERNET WARRIORS ARE ANNOYING. #CANDACECAMERONBURE #SOCIALMEDIA Share on X

Same as last week, there is some fun stories but also some ACTUAL stories. Honestly, I prefer the latter. It’s just so much more interesting to read up on stories rather than just the promise of a new show or a 2025 movie* release they’re trying to convince me to be excited for. Kind of like, no, dude, my excitement is capped at about 6 months. Don’t ask me to hype before this. Let’s just jump right in and see what stories we find.

POP CULTURE EDITION SIXTY

HOLLYWOOD CELEBRITIES AGAINST CANDACE CAMERON BURE

Another celebrity is encountering the wrath and name calling of the Internet. That’s right, Hallmark and former Full House star Candace Cameron Bure is again being criticized. This time it’s in the aftermath of her interview with WSJ where she promoted her new network Great American Family. During the interview she explains why she made this switch, which not just includes starring roles, but a creative position as well, saying, in part “My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them. I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.” Sounds fine. She goes on to say, referring to Hallmark, “It basically is a completely different network than when I started because of the change of leadership.”

She’s right. Hallmark has changed. We can argue over “how much” or in what ways, but it is different than it used to be. I say this as someone who watched way back when they premiered A Boyfriend for Christmas. The comment that, I’m assuming really irked celebrities is that she believes GAC will uphold “traditional marriage.” This SPARKED rage.

Stars like JoJo Siwa (who previously said Bure was “rude” after an encounter when JoJo was a kid) and former Hallmark star Hilarie Burton had thoughts. JoJo thought it was terrible for Candace to say this after their prior conversation. Though honestly, I don’t think JoJo’s prior “call out” was totally innocent but that’s another conversation. Burton, however, got nasty. In a tweet she called Bure a “bigot.”

Here’s my deal with people. So Candace 100% has a right to say what she did. She isn’t hating on people just because she’s living her life by her Christian values. Hilarie Burton also has a right to say she disagrees. Where I take issue is that when Hilarie stands for her values, she’s lauded as “brave.” Additionally, I take issue with anyone throwing names around like “bigot.” That’s a SERIOUS accusation and isn’t just some statement opposing Candace’s statement.

In the aftermath of this, Candace issued a statement which I may not totally agree with, but she always does this with class. What I admire MOST about her statement is that she put it out there and left comments open. This means she’s gotten positive response yes, but also comments that disagree. Again, totally fine. But she’s gotten some downright mean comments too. No matter how strong you are, that is never pleasant.

SHUT UP! MIA + NICHOLAS RETURN?

Though already writing about this earlier in the week, I still have to mention it here because we love a good and complete roundup! The news is that there’s rumors, from multiple outlets, that Princess Diaries 3 is indeed in the works. There’s no official cast sign on – yet, but Anne Hathaway has said she’d be interested in reuniting with her former co-workers to make Princess Diaries 3 happen. What do you think will happen?

STRONG FEMALE LEADS ARE “BORING”

This is another topic I wrote about yesterday quite on a whim. I had read some comments Emily Blunt made about how anytime a character is described as “strong” when she’s reading scripts, this makes her “roll” her eyes. She finds this type of character boring and not at all what she looks for. In part she says that reading about these is “the worst thing ever when you open a script and read the words: ‘strong female lead.’ That makes me roll my eyes – I’m already out. I’m bored. Those roles are written as incredibly stoic, you spend the whole time acting tough and saying tough things.” Like I said, I wrote about this and some of my thoughts yesterday which you can read on here.

LAST THINGS

Netflix released its series Wednesday. Did you or will you be watching?

Something we talked about in an earlier addition was the upcoming Hallmark drama Long Way Home. It now has a release date of January 15. Focusing on the women in a family the description reads it follows “multi-generational family drama,” and will star Andie MacDowell (Maid) and Chyler Leigh. See the trailer here.

The Daily Wire, which has produced some good movies like Shut In, announced it has secured the rights to the novel Atlas Shrugged, suggesting it will be the next project they tackle. According to articles, the company is going to produce a series adaptation for distribution on its streaming platform.

Romantic comedy, good guy leading man Noah Centineo is about to try his hand at a spy thriller role. Netflix is about to drop in The Recruit where the actor will play a new CIA lawyer. Rumor has it, the show drops on December 16. You can find the trailer here.

In a recent interview, Chris Hemsworth reveals he’ll be taking some time off and to slow down after he discovered he has a “genetic predisposition” to develop Alzheimer’s.

News reports say Jay Leno suffered gasoline burns, but news is he expects to make a full recovery.

There is bad blood between Taylor Swift and Ticketmaster. The pop star had a ticket sale for her upcoming Eras Tour in the last week, only there was a bunch of drama during the sale as buyers tried to wait in line for the tickets on line only for the site or some other snafus to prevent everyone from getting tickets.

Your turn to sound off! Which of these stories did you read? Did you see any of these? How do you feel about the Candace drama? How about the excitement of a possible Mia and Nicholas reunion? Comment all of your comments below – let’s chat on this Friday!

  1. I’ve been seeing a lot about the Taylor Swift/Ticketmaster stuff. I haven’t been to a concert in years, and it’s partly because of things like this. I mean, the tickets are always hugely expensive, but then they seem to sell out in just minutes, so it seems pointless.

    1. Right? I did (loosely) think about trying to get tickets to a show that I’d have to travel too just to make a kind of trip out of it but as it all turned out, I’m quite glad I didn’t even try. :) Plus yes, the ticket prices are DANG high. I saw something somewhere where they’re now even pricier than the Ticketmaster price because of the “shortage.”
