THE BEST and SILLIEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE MOMENTS six
THE BEST (NON) FIRST DATE goes to Single on the 25th
This scene is honestly darling. I loved it so much and on an entirely different note, I respect the heck out of this movie for being its own unique self while still putting on the typical Christmas fare. I have a feeling I’ll largely be alone (which is perhaps appropriate given these themes?) in this perspective, but whatever. Back to this scene. I adore it and it stands out because it’s fun and different.

THE BEST ROM-COM MOMENT goes to Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas
For any of us who likes Love actually or even While You Were Sleeping, I think the best romantic-comedy moment immediately has to go to the final moments at the end of Twelve Dates ‘Til Christmas. After texting a guy who stood her up, Kate gives him a second chance and then during their second date, he disappears (with good reason) which leads Kate to run after him. Then under the gentle snowfall, the pair share a sweet first kiss.

THE CRAZIEST MOVIE goes to My Secret Santa
Ok, I’m going to admit (though social media would tell me I shouldn’t) I did find this one entertaining and funny. It made me laugh and I liked it in the framework of what it is, which is a silly Christmas movie. Regardless, I did find the whole Matthew bonding with Santa a bit odd give who is beneath the beard. So yeah, the least rom-com connection (because of those scenes, otherwise I think they are fine) would immediately go to this one as would this one winning craziest movie.

THE MOST HEARTWARMING goes to Christmas Checklist
Marketed by UPtv as a limited series, this one has a bittersweet premise following an adult daughter who is trying to cope with the holidays in the immediate aftermath of her mother’s death. When she finds a letter and checklist from her mother, Emily sets out to accomplish them. As we watch Emily do this, we see her journey as bittersweet, but the practiced seasonal movie goers we are, we also know she’ll end up stronger as a result, so the promise of that makes us happy. Seeing Emily go on this journey is bittersweet, but we also know there will be hope and healing in her journey.

THE MOST SURPRISING MOVIE goes to A Christmas Murder Mystery
I didn’t expect much from this one, but it was fun. It’s a kind of Agatha Christie esque concept that is also part Knives Out. But of course, here it is all done in a fun kind of way that is still ideally Christmas-y. It’s puzzle creator heroine is fun, too.

Stream, starting December 12, with UP Faith and Family
THE SILLIEST CLICHE goes to Oh. What. Fun.
Like My Secret Santa (though this one isn’t as silly), I can admit that I did enjoy it. I think it was hyped to be greater than it is when in reality the movie isn’t anything funnier or more Christmas-y than Christmas with the Kranks or even some of the older 1940s Christmas movies that lean into the screwball comics. What makes this one the silliest is the obsession the protagonist has about something. Though I think what causes her to snap isn’t unreasonable.

SURPRISING SANTA CLAUS APPEARENCE goes to She’s Making a List
Seeing Santa Claus in the final moments of She’s Making a List is a little surprising. He may not be the jolliest of all the Santa’s in all the Christmas movies, but I did like him. It was also fun to see the characters find Santa not on some festive mall throne or in the frigid tundra of the North Pole, but Delaware!
