‘THE OTHER ZOEY’ IS REALLY DELIGHTFUL WINTER COMEDY
With the classic romantic comedies of the Millennial era as inspiration, The Other Zoey works hard to charm its viewer.
The Other Zoey (2023) Film Review
Coding is what Zoey Miller (Josephine Langford) does best. She has a formula for nearly everything and believes even an algorithm is the only way to pair up ideal matches. Her latest app project isn’t garnering any support, but things get super complicated when the soccer star, Zach MacLaren (Drew Starkey) hits her in the head while out practicing.
The pair begin an adversarial interaction that continues when Zoey again sees Zach in the bookstore where she works. Unluckily for them both, Zach is hit by a car outside her workplace and suffering from amnesia, Zach comes to believe Zoey is his girlfriend!
FILM REVIEW | ‘REGRETTING YOU’: THIS IS THE MUCH QUIETER HOOVER ADAPTATION
‘THE OTHER ZOEY’ IS REALLY DELIGHTFUL WINTER COMEDY. Review of the 2023 comedy! Share on XLike so many films, this is one of those titles I saw often on Prime Video and never watched. Why I don’t know but here we are, two years after its release. One thing that is objectively true of The Other Zoey is that the production isn’t completely well done. The film could have used a bit of polish here and there, but as we have to take the film as it is, I can say, it is cute.

I like the characters and while some won’t be okay with this film because of its themes of dishonesty, I think it’s ultimately a charming movie. The film leans heavily into While You Were Sleeping lore and also references many other classic romantic-comedies along the way. The cast is more newcomers than popular names, and I love this. Langford plays the practical heroine well and I like the banter she and Starkey share. While imperfect, we still get plenty of rom-comy moments, which is what I look for if I’m going to watch the genre, so in this way, The Other Zoey very much satisfies.

Content: the film has a few suggestive sections of dialogue including talk of threesomes and being in a relationship where this is acceptable. There is a scene or two of couples making out and a comment about a couple trying to share a room while on a trip. There is some profanity including use of the F-word. The film is PG-13.
