‘FREAKY FRIDAY’: A CLASSIC REMAKE MILLENNIAL MOVIEGOERS STILL LOVE
One of the films I cannot believe I don’t have in the archives, but also one that’s probably not needed, I’m still going to add this millennial favorite. Made in the early 2000s, Freaky Friday (2003) is a remake of a classic 70s film and is inspired by a novel of the same name.
Freaky Friday (2003) Film Review
Getting along with her mother isn’t something that comes easy for Anna Coleman (Lindsay Lohan). She’s the typical teenager who wants to get her license and has a band her mother cuts off power to when they rehearse. They just don’t communicate well. Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) is the consummate, organized professional. She’s a psychiatrist and after the death of her husband, is finally ready to say ‘I do’ again. Her fiancé Ryan (Mark Harmon) is patient and supportive but all he wants is to bond with his soon to be step kids. In the aftermath of their latest all-out fight, which results in Tess removing Anna’s door and privacy, things get, well, weird.
The next day, Tess wakes up only she isn’t Tess. She looks like Tess, but she’s Anna and Anna is Tess. Now the pair must figure out how to swap their lives back before Tess walks down the aisle and Jake (Chad Michael Murray), the cute boy Anna crushes on, falls for Tess!
FILM REVIEW | ‘BLIND DATING’ IS ONE OF CHRIS PINE’S EARLY ROLES

Speaking practically, reviewing this probably isn’t something that is wise when it comes to the technical side of writing and publishing. Because, yes, it’s dated. That said, since Freaky Friday (2003) is one of those easily recognizable titles and a nostalgic favorite, which means I had to add it to the archives. The other appeal of course is that Disney is bringing back the original stars for the sequel Freakier Friday. So, with this all said, let’s take a closer look and share some thoughts on this film.
The story is funny and the cast bringing it alive is fun. No matter how many times I watch this, I still laugh. They all bring something memorable to their roles, and the physical comedy hits the right marks. This role was one of Lohan’s most memorable and she’s a great character. Curtis and her play mother and daughter well and I quite love the guys (Harmon and Murray) in their respective Freaky Friday (2003) roles.
What I love best about this one is the happy ending (duh! I’m all about those) and the surprisingly poignant lessons this teaches this mother and daughter. Odd though this may seem to say, this title is a timeless one on its own terms, and it’s easily one of the most rewatchable titles on my shelf of favorites.

Content: There really isn’t much to mention in this PG film. There is some typical teenage misbehavior (it’s mild and really not worth mentioning). There are some kisses and a teen becomes fascinated with an adult (the person really isn’t an adult, they just look like one).
