SOME THINGS TO WATCH LIKE ‘SONG SUNG BLUE’
One of the late hits of 2025 was the now Oscar nominee Song Sung Blue, which is our inspiration today for what other things like it there is to watch. The film, which is inspired by a true story, has many tangled emotions wrapped up in its story. It’s also, at least for me, not something that is rewatchable. However, I appreciate its story, the performances and how surprisingly sweet the final seconds of the film are.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN
Hugh Jackman leads this and is very good in the titular role, but we are also pulled in by so many other characters in this film, primarily the delicate romance between characters played by Zendaya and Zac Efron. The big romantic scene set to ‘Rewrite the Stars’ is still one of the more romantic moments in a musical. It’s big, epic and just all around swoony. It’s actually a moment I still remember even after seeing it only once!

MUSIC and LYRICS
An underrated romantic comedy, this one features Hugh Grant as a former 80s pop star who is a has been and now has to figure out what his future holds. This brings him to Drew Barrymore, a whimsical woman who also has a talent at writing.
The movie is heartwarming and surprisingly sweet. I also like the actors separately playing their characters, and I like them together too.

PRISCILLA
One of two more recent(ish) movies to release chronicling the life (or tragedies as they often are!) of Elvis Presley, this one seems to (obviously) put the focus on his wife Pricilla. I haven’t seen the R-rated drama, but it got some raves and does look pretty. It also had Jacob Elordi, who is getting lots of attention for his Wuthering Heights movie, as Elvis. I omitted the feature titled Elvis from this list (at least as a feature) because from what I know Pricilla fits Song Sung Blue better since it’s more the female perspective which ultimately, I think our subject film is too.
Synopsis: Sofia Coppola’s riveting film about the explosive love affair between Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) and Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi). – Prime Video

THE SAPPHIRES
I watched this one a long time ago and don’t really remember it, but it was well acted and certainly an inspiring story about girls who discover they have raw talent and can captivate an audience.

SING STREET

Stream, at publication, with Netflix; or digitally purchase on places like Prime Video
WALK the LINE
This docudrama is the story of Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter. This drama is also the role that one Reese Witherspoon her Oscar for portraying June. I saw it once and don’t remember it well, but I do remember liking it well enough, and being impressed with the cast and the story. It’s also one of those “hard” to watch films because of the depressing nature, but this one ends a bit more upbeat (I think) than some of the other peer dramas.
