‘THE BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES,’ SEASON 12: SEE THIS ACORN TV TITLE MAKE A RETURN

Back for its season 12 (how are we already twelve seasons in) series, The Brokenwood Mysteries brings back the New Zealand investigators for a group of six mysteries.

The Brokenwood Mysteries (2026) Season 12 Acorn TV Series Review

A mysterious death on a green and otherwise sunny golf course requires the investigation skills of Detective Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea). With few clues and little to go on, Mike along with his team, Kristin Sims (Fern Sutherland) and Daniel Chalmers (Jarod Rawiri), are led to a curious group of alien enthusiasts.

The pool of suspects begin to take shape as they look to the quirks of the supernatural to try and solve this case along with help from pathologist Gina Kadinsky (Cristina Ionda).

Quirky and oddly cozy are easy ways to describe this show. The Brokenwood Mysteries has 12 years to its name so the formula and concept is much the same. Regardless, I’d be lying if I said anything but this is what keeps me coming back. It’s that we are going to find new cozy mysteries to solve, and that we know who we’ll be solving them with that brings viewers back season after repeat season.

These mysteries are as fun as always and put some of the same characters (including Trudy!) into hot water again. We also hang out with some of the same characters who recur as well as the core four we love. Each time I watch a new season of this I am impressed by how much I enjoy Mike, Kristin and Daniel, and of course, Gina’s quirks and unrequited crush on Mike is a continued thread that makes us giggle. All in all, season 12 of The Brokenwood Mysteries sets out to be another solid set of installments, and beyond this I don’t know what else to say.

In particular, I did find the first episode funny and have zero doubt that future installments will be equally compelling as this series continues to entertain in the best possible way. A show that leads the way in brilliant cozy international mysteries.
