A FEW OF THE FAVORITE SECONDARY CHARACTERS

When it comes to the supporting or minor or secondary characters from books, I tend to (sadly) not remember them. I know I like some of them at the time I read the book and appreciate how supportive or kind or good they are to the people who the book is about, but I tend to not remember who they are after the final page is turned. I sometimes remember the characters like this from film or TV, but not always books.

As a result of this, I’m not sure what this list is going to be. Will it be a kind of mish-mash of cinematic and book characters? I don’t know. I also know I’ve written a list of favorite secondary Jane Austen characters and favorite underrated heroines, too. So, I am guessing there will be repeats, but we’ll see if I can find some new characters to place the spotlight on.

FAVORITE SECONDARY CHARACTERS

  • LELIA from THIS TIME NEXT YEAR | I really like Lelia from the Sophie Cousens novel and actually, quite like her boyfriend too. I cannot remember him as distinctly in the novel as in the adaptation, but I think he is able to be the “outsider” that Lelia and Minnie need when they self-damage their friendship. He’s also really in love with Lelia and it’s all kinds of cute and lovely. Add on Goodreads
  • JOHN LOGAN from OFF CAMPUS | Adding this character is 100% a risk on my part because I haven’t read the books (nor do I plan to) and I’m basing my liking him on watching 2 episodes of the Prime Video adaptation and skimming (skipping through) two (or three) other episodes. However, based on this, I’d totally say skip all the other dudes (Dean, Garrett) and say I like John. But again, I likely would change my mind (because writers love to make characters be tortured, have them incapable of being faithful or honest, and weirdly unredeemable) if I saw more context for his character. Add on Goodreads
  • MARGARET DASHWOOD from SENSE and SENSIBILITY
  • MR. GARDINER and MRS. GARDINER from THE OTHER BENNET SISTER | If I remember right, I always liked this character in the 1995 A&E miniseries, however I have a newfound appreciation for her and her husband as well, in the novel The Other Bennet Sister. I also think their portrayal in the BritBox miniseries is good too. Add on Goodreads
  • NAT from GEEK GIRL | The bestie character from Geek Girl is fierce, and perhaps a bit dramatic, but also loyal, and I love her. Add on Goodreads
  • REEPICHEEP and MR. and MRS. BEAVER from THE CHRONICLES of NARNIA
  • RICHARD and ANNABEL from GEEK GIRL | For some reason, I seem to remember liking Harriet’s parents from the Geek Girl series. Though I cannot remember if I like them from the novel or TV show, or both! Add on Goodreads

How many of these have you seen? Which ones do you re-watch time and again? How many should I have added to this list of best Netflix period drams? Let’s hear all of your thoughts.

Thank you for visiting; please do return again soon.

    1. I struggle a lot. Not because I don’t find the topics interesting, but because I don’t have a memory that hangs on to names or characters. Like you I probably remember them better visually, so when I meet them on TV shows or movies, which is why my characters are book characters, yes, but also we meet them in some form of and cinema, too. ;)

    1. I like them in Pride and Prejudice as well. But they really stand out in The Other Bennet Sister so in either story, they are quite memorable. :)

  1. The struggle is real! I didn’t even do this list today for the same reason, I just don’t remember most of the characters after I have finished a book. I have not watched any of these, so I can’t add to the conversation. Have a good week!
