Inspector Ellis, Series Two (2026) Acorn TV Review

Despite some challenges, DCI Ellis (Sharon D Clarke) has found her investigative rhythm alongside her colleague and partner DS Harper (Andrew Gower). Their latest case takes them to another rural location where they are tasked with leading an investigation into the death of a community leader who, by all accounts, was well loved.

What the pair finds the deeper into their investigation they get is a group of suspects who are hiding secrets and a victim who may not have been as well liked.

Just prior to this series two drop, I finally watched Inspector Ellis’ first season and found (as one always expects) a good show. The story is a little darker than the cozy Acorn TV titles I watch, but the characters are compelling. Like their respective cases, we slowly peel back layers into who they are, and I love that Ellis is slowly opening up. She and Harper are learning to trust and it’s (so far) an interesting story to follow.

This one, in its opening titles, simply titles this one Ellis, but all of the Acorn TV promo adds the ‘inspector’ moniker. Either way, it all fits. This series gives us four episodes instead of three, but it’s only two cases this time as they are broken into two parts. The cast is, once again, really good and the cases interesting. There are lots of clues and forensics as well as shifting between the whodunit answers.

No matter where you land, a TV addict who likes darker or cozier TV shows, one thing you can be sure of is Inspector Ellis series two is another golden production from Acorn TV. It’s smart and intense with compelling cases that keeps us guessing.
