THE LOVE STORY OF TEWKESBURY AND ENOLA HOLMES
The love stories that rarely get shout-outs or hype are often the ones I find most intriguing. One such story is the love of Tewkesbury and Enola Holmes. Their romance isn’t perhaps loved by all, but it has more weight than its given credit for. This story has now spanned three movies, which means it’s time I add their story to the OTP Features we share here.

Both Tewkesbury and Enola are literally running from something when they serendipitously meet. He from being pushed into choices he believes are morally wrong and she from being locked away at a boarding school that will “finish” her as a lady. Enola has also been raised with the notions, at least seemingly so, that she doesn’t need anyone and being alone (after all, her name backwards does spell alone) is the only way to go through life. Needless to say, becoming entangled with a “useless boy” (Enola’s words!) is a very inconvenient thing that turns to a much deeper emotion.
As the third (and possibly last) film in the franchise is here, it seems like an ideal time to look back on their love story. So, let’s take a look at some of their most charming or beautiful romantic moments between them.

HEARTBREAK and RESCUE
The Film: Enola Holmes (2020)
The Scene: Enola’s heart breaks after being left behind; a Tewkesbury rescue
There are cute moments of banter and adorableness between these two, including a meet-cute on a train that is well worth remembering, but there is an obvious inkling where we see Enola realize she doesn’t wish to or have to be alone. While trying to secure him an escape from a cop looking to cash in on a reward, Enola sacrifices her freedom, telling him (in no uncertain terms) to go! They lock eyes as he stands by the window. When he disappears, the pain and sorrow in her eyes at finding him gone is obvious.

Then, later, Enola is sent to a young ladies school. After too many grueling days there, she opens a curious delivery to find Tewkesbury inside! He has come to rescue her, and her joy at it being him doing the job, is obvious. These tied together scenes set up their bond.

The Scene: Tewkesbury tries to get back his life
After breaking free from her school shackles, Enola leads them to the ancestral home of Tewkesbury to set things right and allow him to return to normal life. What she cannot foresee is this puts them in a literal fight for their lives… and cost him his.
Just when the fight with a ruthless assassin ends, the pair confront the real threat. Taking aim, a shotgun fires straight into his heart. After Enola stops the threat, she runs back to him screaming his name and falling to the floor next to him. tewkesbury enola love story
Covering his body as she cries, she entangles her fingers with his hand as the camera pushes in on their joined hands, we see his move and gently grasp hers.
Waking, he tells her he’s not totally an idiot. He took precautions and had armor on. A fierce hug is her relieved reaction.
THE GOODBYE

The Scene: “You’re not rid of me yet!”
Once restored to his title and taking his seat in the house of lords, Enola and Tewkesbury part, though he wonders how he will do without her walking side-by-side with him.
In true Enola fashion, she prepares to leave, and reaching up through the gate, she clasps his hand as they lovingly hold eye contact. He’s not rid of her yet, she tells him. Managing smiles, they part. For now. tewkesbury enola love sotry
THE BATHROOM WALTZ
The Movie: Enola Holmes 2
The Scene: “Teach me to dance!”
During her investigation, the nonconformist Enola discovers that she needs to attend a soiree. Fortunately for her, thanks to the little crush she has on Lord Tewkesbury, well, she does have an invitation. When she realizes that proper etiquette means she can only talk to a person of the opposite sex if they are dancing, a dance becomes necessary. Luckily, she spies Tewkesbury and though she’s loathe to admit it, he plays her knight when he helps her learn to dance!
The scene is cute and involves learning that fans can be used to flirt!

The Movie: Enola Holmes 2
The Scene: Tewkesbury’s Confession
Speaking of that flirting, Tewkesbury confesses that he loves Enola with a fan. Unaware of what it means, he tells her she’ll learn. Later, as they pair up to solve Enola’s latest case, he says the words to her. Telling Enola he loves her and asking if she heard him as she is distracted by the puzzle coming together in her mind. Of course she did hear everything this nincompoop (her nickname for him) of a lord confesses and though quite inconvenient for this independent soul, she has a confession of her own: she loves him too.
The final scene between them in Enola Holmes 2 is also darling.
WHY…?
The Film: Enola Holmes 3 (2026)
The Scene: The Would-Be Marrieds Rediscover Each Other
As their relationship evolves, arguments, hurt and pain crop up between the pair. Still, they walk the cliffs as Enola gives Tewkesbury the case update. When she nearly trips, he offers his hand and she asks him, why are you so good to me? He tells her it’s because I’m choosing to be. This moment looks at the idea that two people who share a great love consistently choose each other. He reassures her that he is not going to lose her, no matter the questions that have come between them. tewkesbury enola love story
As they near the sea, they jump into the water, but the lead in turns a little bit sexy as they undress. This scene is so well done and while it leans heavier in the physical than most moments between them, it’s a more “mature” look at how their love has and continues to evolve. Tewkesbury gently braids Enola’s long hair and whispers that he missed her. Me too is her reply in kind.
They share a playful swim that culminates in a kiss… and of course, a happy ending.
