Newlyweds (2026) NBC TV Show Review

Widowed with two adult kids who are still living with her is Jeanie (Téa Leoni). She’s a grade school teacher who has been encouraged to go out and meet new people. A professor who is divorced from someone who just won’t go away, James (Tim Daly) too is trying to get back out there. Both of them are set up on a blind date that almost isn’t. Jeanie plans to bail but then she sees James, and the pair decide to give it a chance.

A brief whirlwind romance later, and these two become newlyweds that has curiosity from some, concern from others, and is plagued by the consistent appearance of James’ ex Claudia (Jamie Lee Curtis).

This is one of those shows that brings some laughs and has a great cast to its name. I never saw the show that Leoni is famous for, but I did binge (more recently) the entire 90s comedy Wings which Daly is known for. Of course, additionally, I also love the many different roles that Jamie Lee Curtis has been in. Curtis is set to appear as Claudia which is said to be a “recurring guest role.” She is also credited as being a co-creator and EP, too. So, yeah, the star power is high in this one.

Based on this pilot, Newlyweds sets out to be a good time. I very much enjoyed this show but I don’t know if I’ll keep watching it. The show really reminded me of the 90s dramedy Dharma and Greg which was always a fun time. I don’t know how the dynamics will continue to shake out for this one, but it begins with some good vibes. I’m always curious about something that can make me laugh and this sitcom accomplishes this.

If you like sitcoms, then this may be something you want to give a chance. It’s an easy watch that doesn’t require a lot of time because of its half-hour format.
