Blood and Treasure Season Two (2022) TV Show Review

Life is good for former lawyer turned FBI agent turned treasure hunter Danny McNamara (Matt Barr). He’s happy for the first time in a long time and a reason for this is being with the love of his life, Lexi (Sofia Pernas). Together they are unstoppable even with their many differences. A former thief who now works with Danny, the pair has had quite an adventurous year. When they get word that Danny’s former mentor, whom they put in prison, has died, Danny and Lexi pay respects where Danny runs into a familiar face from his past.

Elsewhere, the Vatican is attacked by a new terrorist group and Danny’s friend, Father Chuck (Mark Gagliardi) injured during the attack. Somehow Danny and Lexi are roped into this when Danny’s ex is kidnapped, and the pair start their newest hunt to bring her back.

This is one of those shows I don’t see many people chatting about. Usually, a summer season that isn’t as long as the normal autumn seasons, Blood and Treasure is an easy viewing and entertaining show that’s fun to watch. It has this kind of National Treasure vibe going for it and also features, in my opinion, one of the better romantic relationships on modern TV. blood and treasure season two

Each season (only two) features the gang hunting for something. The “what” isn’t always “dynamic” in my opinion but is most entertaining. There’s this constant game of “what’s next” as each season follows one thread rather than a one-episode-and-done story construct. There’s globe hopping galore with our characters rarely in one place for long. Makes it simultaneously fun and also a bit confusing trying to remember where everyone is in each plot section. Still, it’s just fun knowing they’re going everywhere and adds to the overall appeal of the plot.

Like in season one, the relationship between Danny and Lexi continues to impress. In the first season, it was this kind of reunion and Lexi trying to work Danny with charm. Dude didn’t fall for it and it made me proud. For multiple reasons. This season is more about “settling” them into their relationship though not in a normal “settled” physical place and digging into their respective backgrounds to create complications. With exception to one even nearer the end of the season, I still don’t mind this because the writers don’t let usual things affect them in the normal ways.

Sure, they have problems. They fight. But overall, they don’t feel like a couple on the verge of splitting every two seconds. They have trust with and in each other. They aren’t concerned every two seconds that each other cannot hold their own. Yet I can still appreciate and admire that they have normal issues, too. I tend to feel the emotions between them (there are some good ones this season); they’re solid and want to be with each other even with their doubts and flaws. That’s huge and I applaud whoever is making them work like this.

Beyond my gushing over Lexi and Danny, Blood and Treasure is just fun. There’s not other way of putting this. Not sure if a third season will happen because Matt Barr is currently in another show. (He did express interest though!) If it does happen, I’m all in. If not, I’m happy with where the show stands and think it does a nice job of closing things out and giving fans a happy ending, but of course, we could have more adventures too.

Content: there is some sexual innuendo and suggestive remarks. A couple is in a state of undress in one scene. There is some profanity but nothing terrible. Mostly it’s the “tense” situations and danger everyone gets into. From bomb threats to poison and gunfire, there’s a host of dangers and threats against our heroes. There’s a tense crash and people having to run from bad guys. The show is TV-14.

    1. It’s just SO much fun. I’m sure most people who watch it think it’s not “great” (or that’s been my experience when I ask about things like this) but for me there’s just something about this one that’s good. :)
