Movie Talk: Upcoming 2016 Films

This past Saturday found me “at the movies.” For whatever reason, I was abnormally early. As my mother and I sat in our seats minus popcorn (because, well, we’re those weird kind of people who don’t have to be munching to enjoy our flick… I know this is probably almost against a theater outing law), we not only sat through the overabundance of trailers, we also sat through the pre-previews, which consists of film trivia and other nonsense. But, I guess the good thing that came of this was in fact, seeing some interesting trailers!

MARVEL FANGIRL | Doctor Strange Teaser

Some of these I did see for the first time at the theater, others I spotted when looking up the codes for some of these trailers. Needless to say, I think there are some interesting flicks hitting theaters later this year. My dilemma now shall be choosing which of these to see in theaters, and which I’ll await the DVD arrival for.

Let’s jump right in, shall we?

UPCOMING 2016 FILMS

Movie Talk: Upcoming 2016 Films #fromthearchives #Movies Share on X
Jason Bourne

Matt Damon, Julia Stiles and Alicia Vikander

I’d totally be lying if I didn’t say this is THE movie I’m most anticipating. It looks crazy good, plus Matt is back in the role of Jason Bourne, which is just how this series was always meant to be continued.

Jason Bourne, now remembering who he truly is, tries to uncover hidden truths about his past. – July

The Legend of Tarzan

Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie

Tarzan (no matter its form) has never been my favorite legend story, so while I probably will see this one, my feelings on it could go either way. Still, it looks interesting plus I love that so many films are becoming live-action, and as if it definitely plays up the romance angle.

Tarzan, having acclimated to life in London, is called back to his former home in the jungle to investigate the activities at a mining encampment. – July 1st

The Magnificent Seven

Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington and Haley Bennett

This was a first time trailer for me, and golly, it looks hilarious! I vaguely remember seeing the oldie adaptation, so I’m curious to see how this one plays out. Oh, and can we just appreciate how hilarious Chris Pratt’s performance seems in this one!?

Seven gun men in the old west gradually come together to help a poor village against savage thieves. – September

X-Men: Apocalypse

James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Rose Bryne

I know, this one has been “out there” for a while. But – gasp (my inner Marvel fangirl is happy!) – I’ve not actually watched the trailer. This one promises to do justice to the Jean Grey and Scott love story (new actors in the roles too), so we’ll see how that plays out; I liked them fine in the other versions considering Movie Jean and Scott was all I knew. (Bonus: Rose Bryne returns!)

With the emergence of the world’s first mutant, Apocalypse, the X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction level plan. – May 27th

  1. I'm anticipating the next Alice movie, "Through the Looking Glass." The kid in me wants to see "Finding Dory," and (later this year) the next Disney Princess film, "Moana." There's also the Star Wars movie, "Rogue One," and I'm also curious about "Miss Peregrine'e Home for Peculiar Children." I recently required two free movie tickets from the dentist, so I've just got to decide which one of these to use them on. :-D

    1. "Through the Looking Glass" does look amazing, Grace! Whimsical and so magical for sure. I'll have to look up Moana (love those Disney girls!) and I agree about "Miss Peregrine's." It looks strange… but someone interesting. Great picks – and thanks for sharing some of your anticipated 2016 films. :)

  2. I'm looking forward to ALL of these!! I've never heard of The Magnificent Seven, so I just watched the trailer and YES! I LOVE Chris Pratt. My dad will definitely want to see that one too, so I know I'll have a theater buddy. :) Thanks for sharing!

    1. How fun. I'm betting this will be the perfect flick for you and your dad (I suspect mine might enjoy it too). I was giggling throughout the whole trailer, and am 99.9% sure Chris Pratt will be epic in this role. :)

  3. So stoked about these all too! Bourne is definitely top of my list. We love that series and own all the movies and that one I will see in the theater. Can't wait! I'm also looking forward to the next Captain America even though it kills me to see all the characters I love go to war against each other. Rogue One is also huge on my list. I wasn't sure at first, but it looks and sounds just awesome! :)

    1. Mine too, Tressa. I'm sure I'll simply *have* to see that one in theaters – especially since, when, Matt Damon played this character I wasn't "into" these (that came post theater releases), so it'd be fun to follow up the Jeremy Renner (which I saw on the big screen) film with this one.

I'm SO sad about 'Civil War.' (The direction it's going.) If you see it, let me know what you think.

I'll have to look up Rogue One. :)

(Apologies for the lengthy delay in replying. Thanks, Tressa!)

    1. I'm iffy about the Tarzan origin movie too, Rachel. But, I'll probably rent it. We'll see. Either way, hope we both enjoy the rest of these! :)

(Apologies for the delay in this reply. As always, thanks for visiting.)

  4. I am beyond excited to see Matt Damon back as Jason! Cannot wait to see that one. Hopefully soon, since it just came out this weekend. (Clearly I'm way behind my blog reading. :)

    1. Me too, Kara! I'm excited to see what the movie is about and how it all plays out. I've not even read a single review of Jason Bourne but *know* it has to be fabulous. :)

  5. I saw it this weekend, and I thought the story was solid, the acting ranged from good to delightful, and there were a couple parts that made me almost cheer aloud. But there was a loooooot of "shaky-cam" stuff that also annoyed me greatly. I'll definitely be buying the DVD, but not sure if I want to see it in the theater again just cuz shaky-cam is easier for me to process on a smaller screen.

    1. YAY! Glad overall you liked it, Rachel. I've not seen it yet, but have read there is a lot of shaky camera work. That style is easier to adjust to on the small screen. I've not fully decided if I like it or not to be honest. I think if it's a chase scene (which should be the ONLY time filmmakers implement this style I think), I can deal with it so long as its not present in an intense conversation or pivotal plot turn.

Glad you shared your thoughts. :)

    2. Agreed. I have seen shaky-cam used really well, like in most of Captain America: Civil War. I've seen it used so badly you literally could not tell what was going on during an action scene, like in Quantum of Solace. This falls somewhere in between. I could see who was doing what, but it wasn't used only in the action scenes, but in almost every single scene, to the point where I almost got a little motion sick.

I like it in chase scenes that take place on foot or are going to be very rattly, like motorcycles going up or down steps, but this felt more like it was trying to be almost "found footage," which is silly. IMHO!

    3. Ugh. That doesn't sound promising (for me). I understand its purpose and "need" in the action scenes, but in EVERY scene!? Hmm… Still, I'm going to go into seeing this one (whenever I do) with optimism and hope for the best. :)

I didn't mind 'Civil War' in the least so… yeah, I'm hopeful. :)

I agree. Chase scenes or scenes that involve a motorcycle are fine. It almost put you "in the moment," which heightens the excitement.
