When it comes to America, I’m all about sporting those red, white and blue colors. As we’re heading into (official) the start of summer, we have more than one excuse to wear the colors proudly which includes things like Flag Day or Independence Day, or even this coming Memorial Day weekend. Just for fun, today we have some cute American fashion ideas for you.
LIST | ONE RANDOM QUIZ + A LIST: SOME OF OUR FAVORITE MOTHERS FROM TV
I really do like fashion in a passing fancy way. I enjoy seeing what’s trending and window shopping at boutiques. However, I don’t often have cause to dress up, which is something I’m kind of sorry about. When you live your life in workout clothes or oversized tees, the idea of dressing up and going out sounds fun. Instead here we are, staring at a computer screen and trying to dream up content. That said, for now, this type of content has to suffice, and so we bring this back to some red, white and blue fashion looks! Because, let’s be real, even if we’re staying home (this is me) for the festive and sparkling holiday, it’s still fun to sport the colors.
As a result, we have some dressier options and some that are casual. Plus we have some that are all about comfort, but still with cute touches! Let’s jump in.

1: THE BEACH FASHIONISTA
If there’s one thing many people will probably be doing over long weekends like the 4th of July, it’ll be to head to the beach. This, I am sure, will inspire lots of swimwear, cover ups or jean shorts! I’m not a swimsuit person and probably won’t ever be. However, on Amazon I did see a couple girly and cute ones including this red one piece with fun ruffle sleeve detail (which I would maybe wear if I had to) with cutout detailing in the back(1); or this vintage inspired two-piece suit in a royal blue(2)(which I wouldn’t personally wear). From Target, there’s options like this pretty double-strap blue floral(3); or this feminine white with ruffle detail one piece.

If you’re into the jean short as a cover-up, you probably already own a pair. If not these Levi 501 shorts have HIGH ratings on Amazon or from Amazon, this high-rise a-line cut offs from Lee(4).
Though way pricy, the bucket hat(5) is SUPER on trend right now, or if that’s not a vibe, there’s also this vintage (it’s even worn looking) baseball cap that’s kind of cute with good Amazon ratings. Also, 90s girls unite! The butterfly style clips are BACK. This time, they’re in the shape of a star for, of course, Fourth of July!(6)
2: THE CUTE AND COMFY FASHIONISTA
If you’re more into the jean short with a tee, or sweater look, these Levi 501 shorts have HIGH ratings on Amazon or from Amazon, this high-rise a-line cut offs from Lee(4). I tend to buy shorts from Target or Abercrombie which are pricier, but last year, I did find a decent (albeit super cheap) pair from Forever 21. I’m super picky about shorts because a: I wear them little out and b: I like some length to mine. Speaking of cropped things, here’s a cropped sweatshirt that’s super simple with the flag and USA that has good Amazon ratings, too(7).

For tops, there’s dressier or casual. Conviction Co. has USA tees in awesome colors! I love that they’re red (aka crimson) and blue (aka denim) without being traditional. They have the same in a sweatshirt form(8), or the slightly different design in ‘USA 1776.’ There’s also these tees from a new to me Etsy shop that read “Party in the USA” or a Freedom tour band design! I also love the American collection from Little Mama Shirt Shop. They have ringer tees like this America Checkers Flag shirt(9) that is all kinds of fun and cute. All would look cute with denim shorts, white pants or go super casual with your favorite leggings. There’s also a basic tiered dress(10) or a simple swing dress in navy, both from Amazon(11) with LOTS of positive ratings; tie a sweatshirt around the waist or pair a baseball cap and tennis shoes and you’re good to go! Or you know, throw on that cropped white sweatshirt(7).
Don’t forget accessories! Add these little star clips if you want to throw in a dash of 90s nostalgia(12). Some kind ladies in a Facebook group I’m part of shared some of the ideas I shared on this list, including a shop called Little Mama Shirt Shop, which has this darling denim blue smiley face hat!(13)
3: THE DRESSY BUT CASUAL CUTE FASHIONISTA
Target honestly doesn’t have much I like anymore, comparatively. If you like to be a bit dressier, but still casual, they have things like this spaghetti strap dress with smock detail. It comes in a blue stripe(14) or solid red. This short-sleeve (their description, not mine) a-line dress comes in white if you want classic(15); pair with some nude sandals (which we probably have in our closet) or fun red jewelry. I also like this dress with its more “rustic” red shade!(16) Recently, on Instagram, I saw a dress styled with a knotted tee, which I think is SUPER cute. Pair a cute Fourth of July tee over a dress to make it more casual(17). Wear with a pair of platform tennis shoes, and you’re golden.

If you want to go with shorts or pants but still dressier, linen shorts may be an option, like these bright red pull on shorts(18). Pair it with a patriotic tee or a classic white button down, which could also be worn with these pinstripe ankle pants(19) or a pair of red ankle pants(20)! Add on a pair of cute, lightweight star earrings in a variety of “metal” colors(21), or some fun tassels(22), and you’re ready to sparkle.
Pink Lily also has a ton of options if you want to shop around a bit! Additional places I’m told will be releasing Patriotic collections include The Light Blonde and Shop CCXO. Last, but not least, lots of people recommend American Freedom Company. What’s cool about them is they give back to military and first responders. I applaud this and think it’s an awesome thing the owner does.
*Shout-out to everyone, including Aisha, Christina, Kristin, Lindsey, Oliva, Samantha, for kindly sharing their best recommendations! I really appreciate everyone sharing their favorites.
