A  Midnight Kiss: A New Year’s Eve Romance

Christmas is officially over for another 300-some days, but this doesn’t mean the romantic comedy joy must end. No indeed. Hallmark invites us to the must-attend final soirée of 2018 with their new original, A Midnight Kiss.

Whether or not she’s ready, Mia (Adelaide Kane) is about to take over her parent’s successful business. Alongside her brother, Jake, and business partner, Mia sets out to ensure their party planning company continues to see success. As the family celebrates Christmas, they plan to make this so in the New Year. Instead the new business owners are tested mere days after their parent’s last party when a popular fashion icon enlists their services.

Despite a tight timeline things seem to be working in their favor until Jake breaks his leg which renders him unable to plan the party. Enter Jake’s former college friend, David (Carlos PenaVega), a talented filmmaker who just may have a knack for planning parites.

Like last season, Hallmark closes out their year of “Countdown to Christmas” newbies with a New Year’s themed original.  To be honest, I really do like the idea of this being a kind of “tradition” for the channel. As someone who watches New Year’s Eve for a kind of annual New Year’s Eve movie, the thought of some new romances centered on this day is fun.

A Midnight Kiss

If you’re looking for something that will be super romantic, this isn’t it. Certainly there is an element of romance, but it’s less center stage, and more about the buildup of what might be. In  my viewing expereince, this is actually lovely since it allows us to invest more fully in the couple; and though I say this on repeat (about these films), its love story is more genuine as a result.

Those of us who like Carlos’ prior Hallmark films (including Love at Sea with wife Alexa PenaVega) will discover a sweet and must-see story. I liked seeing him paired with a new leading lady, and a new-to-Hallmark face at that. I love that this one is a post-Christmas romance, and full of elegant décor and of course, a party to cap it all off.

For those of us who stay in on New Year’s Eve, A Midnight Kiss is the perfect companion. It’s full of everything we need – family cheer, glitter and sparkles, fireworks, and celebration of a New Year! The best part? You can enjoy it all from the comfort of home. Ring in a happy New Year with A Midnight Kiss.
