Love Under the Rainbow – Second Chance Romance in Bright Colors!

In an effort to mind the gap between their campaigns, Hallmark finally set an air date for a romantic drama that filmed quite some time ago. With Jodie Sweetin (Fuller House) headlining along with Hallmark favorite David Haydn-Jones, this cute script is sure to become a new favorite.

Love Under the Rainbow (2019) Hallmark Review

There’s one thing missing in Lucy’s life despite it being a happy one. Her sister has been married for ten years, and is ready to welcome her first baby, but Lucy (Sweetin) hasn’t yet found the right guy. Her sister says she’s too picky whereas Lucy isn’t sure she’ll find happily-ever-after.

In a literal collision over a cup of coffee, Lucy meets Jack (Hadyn-Jones), a Chicago-to-West-Coast transplant. As a single parent working on an important new project, Jack’s life is chaotic, but not so much that he doesn’t make time for this ten-year-old, Sophie (Dakota Guppy). When Lucy and Jack discover they share a connection through Sophie, with some rainbow magic, they may discover something worth staying for.

Once in a while I discover movies that I didn’t anticipate to like quite as well as I do. This Hallmark is one of the recent finds. It’s not that I don’t enjoy all of their productions, but sometimes I like a few better than others. Whether I need something with a light heart that’s happy or not, this little story is a charmer.

Filmed in Canada (as 90-some percent of TV films – and even some shows, are), this U.S.-set film is gorgeous to look at. The rainbow theme is sweet and gives its viewer a colorful setting to look at. Some of the production qualities (like the effects or ADR) is a bit rough, but overall, this one wins. To help make the story more entertaining, the characters have bright personalities that shine. Everyone works well together, and has a nice chemistry for the respective relationships; and as usual, family plays an important role to the story and its structure.

Anyone who wants something uplifting that doesn’t take a dark turn (even with its few emotional moments) will discover a beautiful story in Love Under the Rainbow. It’s a relatable story with characters we relate to all while being a family-friendly film. That kind of trifecta is rare, but something we need to see more of in our entertainment.
