All Made Up by Kara Issac | Book Review
STORY | A decade ago, Caleb and Kat were once in love. Now, as a successful makeup artist who’s trade has won her accolades and awards, Kat is again about to see Caleb. While working on the reality TV show about finding love, Kat is asked to step in last minute to replace one of the girls vying for the hand of their bachelor farmer. It all seems easy enough until Kat sees who the farmer is.
Absurd is the only way Caleb can think to describe the idea of him as a reality TV star. But this is his mother’s one wish – to see him in love, and happy, and he determines he’s going to make it come true; before she forgets. When Kat shows up after a long line of wanna-be TV stars, Caleb’s night goes from obnoxious cameras in his face to memories of happy days, including the reminder that Kat still owns his heart…
BOOK REVIEW | After discovering her writing through her debut novel, reading more of Kara Isaac’s books has always been a priority of mine. Nonetheless in my bookish reading life I never followed through. Until now. All Made Up is Isaac’s second independently published novel, but the quality of story shows no change.
Though I know they’re out there, I cannot remember a novel I’ve read prior to this with this kind of plot; one that follows the world of reality TV. It’s unique, crazy, but also, in this instance, extremely romantic. I’m not a reality television junkie (my one weakness is Dancing with the Stars), but this story’s peek behind the curtain is as fascinating as it is entertaining. Fiction or no, I would wager there’s more truth to the production of these types of shows than fiction falsities.
BOOK REVIEW | Sweet on You – Best Friends Find Perfect Love Story
No matter the interesting nature of the plot, the characters are who we love best. Going in, I didn’t realize that Kat is a character from previous novels. She’s the cousin of a main character (Can’t Help Falling) and the best friend of another (Close to You). Because of this we get to catch up with a few characters, but unless you don’t like to be spoiled, you can read this one as a standalone. Kat’s past (during her break up with Caleb) is riddled with some heartbreak, as his life has also changed, and continues to undergo future heart ache. Their worlds aren’t all rosy, which is part of the reason they share a renewed pull towards one another. They share a past, and have a connection that never broke.
Reality TV aficionados will enjoy this novel. Contemporary romance readers will also enjoy it. Basically, All Made Up is a charming reunion story that’s as bittersweet as it is sweet.
