A Time to Gather to Give Thanks: Happy Thanksgiving 2019

Thanksgiving day of 2019 is here. With it arrives a flurry of activity. From cleaning to grocery shopping, prepping fun games (depending on if you like that sort of thing) to Black Friday prepping(again, if you like that sort of thing), there’s much on our check lists. Plus, on this happy Thanksgiving 2019, there’s last-minute preparations that involve the feast most of us will lay on our table.

As we gather today with those we love most, I hope we all take it as time to reflect and acknowledge all of the things we’re most grateful for. Of course, while doing so, it never hurts to also enjoy a piece of pie, with a cup of tea and maybe a Christmas movie. But most important, this day is not just another day on the calendar.

Today is a day to be in the moment. To look around, and be grateful for the people in our lives who mean the most to us. To be thankful to live in a country where we can celebrate this day as we choose. And to show gratitude to the people who protect these rights. It’s a day to remember all of these things; to enjoy a good meal, of course, but to enjoy the little moments in the day. To not let the fact that the stuffing may turn out a little dry or a new pie recipe doesn’t go as planned. It’s in the laughter and sometimes in these mistakes we make the best memories.

I’m so grateful for the people in my life; for a good book; for the Founders of this place I call home, and for freedom; to all of you, the readers; and for all of the many things I have to be grateful for, usually things I have to remind myself of too often.

As you gather with your family this day, I hope you all enjoy a day of fun, good food, laugh-out-loud silliness; and maybe even a Hallmark movie (or two!). Most of all, I hope this day fills your memory bank scrapbook with the best kind of new memories.

Happy Thanksgiving 2019!

PS: tell me, what’s your favorite kind of pie?
