What to Know about ‘Double Holiday,’ a Hallmark Romance

Down to its final 2019 Christmas romances, one of the last premieres of the year is also one of Hallmark’s brightest. Double Holiday follows the consummate professional, Rebecca Hoffman (Carly Pope). As a project manager for a prestigious firm, Rebecca allows only the most professional version of herself to appear at work. But there’s an exception to ever rule, and of there’s anyone who can ruffle her it’s her cubicle mate, Chris (Kristoffer Polaha).

Quite the opposite of Rebecca, Chris sees the lighter side of life but is still successful at what he does. Then, suddenly, the pair lose their team leader and boss, which means an unexpected promotion opens up, all of which hinges on the two of them planning the most perfect party to assist in landing an important client.

[First and Foremost, It’s] All Kinds of Adorable

This movie has all of the traditional things we like best about a seasonal romance, but it’s also a “fresh” kind of adorable. What exactly makes it so is not something I cannot put my finger on, but trust me, it’s here.

[A] Genuine Family

I cannot seem to remember a Hallmark movie that doesn’t in some way make time for family. This one is no different, but again, the family dynamics seem different. There’s a more subtle energy to this section of the story, but the family element is still very supportive. In short, I like how they all work as supporting characters in this script; they’re here, but they don’t outstay their welcome so that we miss out on good opportunities between the hero and heroine.

[A Grown Up] Romance with Loads of Charm

Speaking of our lead characters, they’re both fantastic. I’ve not seen Carly Pope in a Hallmark original (at least none that I can remember), but I like how she and Kristoffer play off one another. Their career-minded status makes for a more “grown up” romance, and it’s a lovely thing to see. There’s a few misunderstandings, yes, but for the most part, this is less about drama and more about realizing mistaken first impressions.

Oh, and the whole ‘Fancy Suit Guy’ bit is kinda’ cute too!

Catch Double Holiday tonight, December 21, on Hallmark.
