BOOK REVIEW | ‘Before I Called You Mine’: This is One of the Good Novels

Sam Turner is something of a rule follower with a penchant for healthy eating. When the businessman finds this stranger in his home, he questions everything about Genevieve. Expecting to never see her again, Sam is surprised when she returns and together, they strike a bargain to help Gen heal, both physically and mentally. This brings back memories Sam hopes to keep buried and stirs feelings he never expects to feel again.

Stay with Me, by Becky Wade | Book Review

REVIEW | Back with an annual new release, and the launch of an all-new series at that, Becky Wade pens another unique novel that is sure to inspire swooning and maybe even the use of a tissue or two. Inside the gorgeous outer shell of this novel rests a story I did not anticipate. Sure, all of her signature Wade story-telling is here, but there’s an important and complex emotion hidden behind the prettiness that is the outside of this novel.

Becky Wade is one of the best voices in contemporary romance fiction. Her stories touch the heart as well as tickle the funny bone. Stay With Me keeps to these traditions, but early on, I’ll confess to something that blindsides a reader or I don’t anticipate the turn of events. This is handled with care, grace and attests to the talent of its author as it ends up being nothing bad as a it deepens the complexity of the character and opens the emotional door of those who have connections to said character, especially those who form connections during the book.

The characters are rich and flawed, honest and hopeful. Each one has a story to tell, and the past timeline which switches between the perspectives of five people actually adds context and richness to this already well-plotted novel. The story flows well, and these characters burrow into your heart with little to no effort. (Plus, no one is hurt by the fact that Sam is half-Australian, and comes complete with an accent.)

Stay with Me is a novel sure to indeed stay with its reader for a long time to come. It’s a beautiful portrait of redemption, forgiveness and healing, all of which frames the romance that does indeed make us swoon. I know this is one novel that makes my admiration for a favorite author grow even more.
