‘A CINDERELLA STORY’ IS STILL CLASSICALLY CUTE
Twenty years old, even with all the attempts to recreate it, nothing can quite match the cute nostalgia that is A Cinderella Story.
A Cinderella Story (2004) Film Review
Growing up, Samantha ‘Sam’ Montgomery knows how loved she is. She’s the center of her widowed father’s world and their days are full of sunshine, baseball and her father’s diner. When he tragically dies, her entire world ends. Some eight years later, she’s alone with exception to a cruel stepmother (Jennifer Coolidge) her father marries shortly before his death. Now Sam (Hilary Duff) is on the path to graduate a year earlier and head to Princeton.
In between studying and her job at the diner, which Fiona has completely changed, the bright spot Sam has in her life is her online friendship with a cute guy. What she doesn’t know is this guy is the most popular guy (Chad Michael Murray) in school. When he proposes they meet at the Halloween dance, Sam gets cold feet, something that perhaps only her best friend (Dan Byrd) can convince her to change her mind.
FILM REVIEW | ‘SPACE CADET’ IS QUIRKY COMEDY THAT TRIES TOO HARD
‘A CINDERELLA STORY’ IS STILL CLASSICALLY CUTE. #HilaryDuff stars in this rom-com from 2004 alongside #ChadMichaelMurray. #CuteMovies #FavoriteMovies Share on XThough it’s one I oft rewatched through my, shall we say, younger years, A Cinderella Story is outdated and doesn’t have the best acting; and yet, it’s still classically cute. The 2004 film is twenty years old and yet the nostalgia is strong. Everything from the cringy fashion (not that I think it’s altogether better now) to the flip phones, it’s one of those heartwarming films we still love.
Back in the day, this was one of the many films where Hilary Duff would make a name for herself in. Between her name and the star power of Chad Michael Murray, the film was popular and well loved. It also, like two of its era peers, has rumors of a someday sequel. While there’s no word of that and there have been sequels (of a sort) with new characters but the same plot, none quite match this.
Charming still, A Cinderella Story is 90 minutes of pure fun. While its big cinematic anniversary coming up, it’s a fabulous excuse to re-watch this one though you can also consider this your sign and permission to watch this anytime.

Content: nothing much to note in this PG film. There’s some kissing and while it’s “mild” in comparison to some films, Sam is the brunt of jokes, and her peers end up seeing her personal correspondence
