‘My Spy’ is the Fun and Exciting Amazon Original
I have a weakness for cute movies that feature adorable characters. My Spy is the latest in a line of such films.
My Spy (2020) Amazon Film Review
While operating as a special forces solider, JJ (Dave Bautista) knows what his comrades and country expect and need from him. Retired now, JJ works for the CIA where his missions often go a little bit sideways. He doesn’t really have the finesse to pull off the spy craft game. This is why, after his last mission, his boss (Ken Jeong) benches him. Along with tech genius Bobbi (Kristen Schaal), the pair are sent to Chicago to provide surveillance, and if needed, protection for the widow of a man whose brother is still looking for something in his brother’s possession.
Kate (Parisa Fitz-Henley) and her nine-year-old daughter Sophie (Chloe Coleman) are trying to move on from the death of a husband and father, all while realizing he might not be the best guy. Hardest on Sophie, the girl is unable to make any friends, and then she sees something suspicious. She discovers JJ and Bobbi, and using it to her advantage, she manages to use the hardened JJ to her advantage, primarily to use him to get her to things like the must-attend skating party!

‘My Spy’ is the Fun and Exciting Amazon Original. A review of the new Amazon Prime original with Dave Bautista. #MySpy #AmazonPrime #AmazonMovies Share on XSome of my favorite feel-good movies are titles like The Game Plan or The Pacifier. When I learned of this on Amazon, I was as little bit excited because this seems to have that same feel. This film is a combination of the two; there’s the cute antics between JJ and Sophie that is The Game Plan with the same kind of action that The Pacifier has. In other words, this feels like another ideal film for either Dwayne Johnson or Vin Diesel.
To be honest, I don’t love producer Dave Bautista in this role. It’s not that he’s bad, or the film suffers, I just think someone else would be better in the role. That said the scenes between him and Chloe Colman’s Sophie are quite adorable (as one anticipates).
Like anything, I do have an argument or two with this film, but overall, it’s 100 different kinds of fun! Because of this, My Spy gives off lots of laughs, and just may melt your movie-loving heart a time or two. In conclusion, it’s one I thoroughly enjoyed despite how long I wanted to actually watch it.

Content: There’s some crude humor, and action/adventure violence (lots of guns, but nothing graphic). There’s a silent F-word along with the usual commonplace use of profanity (sh*t, abuse of deity, etc.). The film is PG-13.
