‘Chateau Christmas’: See the Start of the Hallmark Christmas Romance

I’m the kind of Christmas movie watcher that thinks any before November 1 is way too early. In a society where we say “let x be x…,” I say, let autumn be autumn! But alas, no one seems to agree, and thus we begin our journey of Hallmark Christmas movies with Chateau Christmas.

Chateau Christmas (2020) Hallmark Christmas Review

Margo (Merritt Patterson) is a talented concert pianist who travels the world and by those who like classical music, she’s always recognized. When renovations at the theater she’s scheduled to play goes array, Margo instead trades the lights of New York for her home state of Colorado where, every year, her family spends Christmas at a charming Chateau for the season.

Once back, Margo learns that the chateau is in need of a solid Christmas concert, and when her ex-boyfriend, Jackson (Luke MacFarlane) asks Margo to be a part of it, she’ll have to decide what her future will be.

This is not the first to debut as Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas 2020 titles, but it is the first Christmas movie I’ve seen of this new season. Returning Hallmark stars, Merritt Patterson and Luke MacFarlane are always good, and though Chateau Christmas is their first film together, I like them fine. We’ve seen Merritt as a would-be princess to photographer, and now she aptly takes on the role of renowned pianist.

One thing I do like about this and her 2019 Christmas film is that the script doesn’t take the usual route. While I “called” some of the things that would happen early in the movie, I missed one assumption and it’s refreshing to see the script take a slightly different approach same as Picture a Perfect Christmas. There’s still plenty of Christmas cheer, though unlike the more practiced and “obvious” scenes, most of these are in montage moments.

As with, likely, 90-some percent of the Christmas romances I’ll watch this year, Chateau Christmas is really sweet. Family is central and of course, for many, a second chance romance will be the cherry on top.
