On July 13, 2001, this little movie released in U.S. theaters and introduced us to something we didn’t know we needed. To be honest, I don’t remember the first time I saw Legally Blonde, but know it wasn’t back in 2001. The film features Reese as the stereotypical blonde whose Harvard bound boyfriend dumps her because she’s just not smart enough. More than a little offended, she applies with acceptance which then made popular her reaction phrase to getting in, “What? Like it’s hard?” a catch phrase everyone remembers. Legally Blonde also feels like one of the early films (in my years of film releases) to depict a heroine who proves everyone around her wrong. In this way, and just for being what it is, I think this is one of those cult classic kinds of movies that break movie-making boxes.
