Chatting about movie anniversaries is one of my favorite things to do, but at the same time, it makes me feel old. One of the most popular pop culture kind of films of my generation is The Devil Wears Prada, a film that kind of redefines the idea of happiness in career or lifestyle. Today, we’re celebrating with this The Devil Wears Prada 15 years later quiz, and just in general, fangirl-y chatter.

Let’s talk about what this film is about really quickly if you’ve never seen it. The plot follows, Andy, a woman looking to fulfill her dreams of being a journalist. Going nowhere in the immediate afterwards of graduation, she kind of falls into a job working as the underpaid and overworked assistant of the prestigious fashion editor Miranda Presley. You see, this job will open doors to anything if she is able to stick it out for a year. That’s all she has to do is work for the woman for one year.

This is without question, one of my most favorite films. I’ve seen it several times and still, I haven’t grown weary of it. It’s a kind of “lessons learned” film that leaves open the doors in its ambiguous end, but also gives us hope (for Andy) of good things to come. I don’t love the ambiguity, but in reality, when I watched the film (it’s been a while since I’ve seen it in full!), I didn’t recognize this about it. However, as I was putting this together, I did notice lots of people do sense it. That, like anything, I guess is open to interpretation.

Though I don’t remember my first time seeing this, I have loved it from day one. In particular, I noticed (in my partial re-watch) this time how fabulous the first ten minutes of this film are. It sets the mood of the film and also allows for the characters to flex their muscles, so to speak, and show us who they are. It’s all around just a fabulous start, and of course, the fashions are all pretty spectacular, too!
